Wisconsin Senate Set to Vote on Anti-Union Bill

All the liberals keep saying that the teacher pay is too low. It's not.

The figure spouted is some 45K or so- average pay. I'm willing to bet those numbers are scewed to include pre-school tutors and teachers aids and the like.

A grade school teacher around here (and I know several) with more than 5 years on the job makes much more than that. They may have started in the high 30's - but after 5 years or so, they are making into the high 50's and 60's. After 12 or so years - they are making into the high 60's and 70's - and the last 10 years on the job (usually the "I don't give a crap" years) they make into the 70's and 80K range.

Those numbers do not include the benefits package they recieve, whick is better than a vast majority pf private sector jobs. The teacher I was talking to last night is going to be off tomorrow (presidents day). She wanted to know if I wanted to walk the lake with her tomorrow. I told her that I'll be working tomorrow because I'm not a banker.

If you calculate the 9 month work year and all the "holidays" and "teacher parent conference days and the like" - it dosn't come anywhere close to the 2200 hour work year that I work. That average 45K number shoots up to the high 60's K number, and as the teacher gets into 10 years or more - that figure is the equivalent of more than 100K when compared to a 2200 hour year worker.

Teachers are indeed paid very well for the lousy service they provide. For all the years they have got away with this injustice if we change it around today it will be many years before the public gets back to even.

I have discussed this with many of the teachers I know. Of course - none of them will take any responsibility for any of the problems - it's always the fault of others they work with.

sounds like a lot of sour grapes to me BearMtnHIB.......whine, whine, whine....the teachers have it better than me.....wah wah wah....lets take those teachers down a notch.....boo hoo hoo.....they don't deserve to be paid more than me....or work less hours than I do (pssst.....most teachers I know work nearly every waking hour during the school year.....correcting papers, lesson planning....after school groups....tutoring on their own time......yep, they sure are a bunch of lazy asses)

poor, poor BearMtnHIB

Well Gee, Archer, apparently you are an exception to the rule. Why is everything so personal to you? If we sit here and read your posts, we won't have to read your book when it comes out.

So you are the product of the Liberal Arts Educated world that actually did something with it. We are proud of you. The problem is that I read your resume and wonder to myself why isn't she a Conservative, since she claims to have been self reliant and claims her son is as well. You talk about things as a true Socialist but then answer with traits that are those of a Conservative.

Hmmmm!!!

I can see that you and LJ think that by sheer volume of posts you will change the world. Kumbaya!!! Everything everyone else has to say, you minimalize or shoot won with your impressions that are perfect, because you are you!!! Heck, who wouldn't want to be you? Or LJ? Maybe I should start a poll question?

Conservatives tend to want to be paid by ability not the number of years waiting for their pay to increase.

Then why aren't there more of them? If they are so superior and their ability is that much greater, then they should excel in the profession. It's for sure the union wouldn't be holding them back.

You really are dense. It is the unions stupid!

That's a typical bulls**t answer... If they are so superior and their ability is that much greater, then they should excel in the profession. It's for sure the union wouldn't be holding them back.

You still haven't answered the question... "The Union" is not an answer...If they are so superior and their ability is that much greater, then they should excel in the profession.

I think teachers do the best they can, but when you get teachers that cannot teach, the unions protect them, is that right? I think not..unions time is up, time to go..

Attnn: Wi. Union slugs. Why don't you do a little research and see if you can find a an elderly U. S. Steel worker or a Bethlehelm Steel worker and let him advise you about how his great union slid them all under the bus and sent their jobs and their work product to Japan. Their Union priced them out of jobs, benefits, and OUT of WORK. Union leaders care more about themselvs and their power than they do about you. You need to know a good percentage of you are very expendable in order for them to keep their jobs and their power.
