Must be really getting old!

Actually BB, since I am getting old(er), maybe I am becoming somewhat mellower. The truth is exactly what Printsmith pointed out and that is the intent behind the poll.

They say that with age comes maturity. Well Lord knows, I have reached the age. I do get riled at LJ's political views, but there are absolutely no reasons for the foul personal attacks, at least from me, any longer. Somebody on here has a signature line that says, " if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." I'm going to try to be better at that. You can keep on making an Ass out of yourself, if you so choose!

I'm going to try to argue things without attacking and see if I can accomplish more. That's just my way of extending an Olive Branch to my enemies. It doesn't mean any of them are going to accept it.

It's a whole lot easier when you start with the mindset that their distaste is for your politics, not for you.

Perhaps adopting this as your signature line would help you keep that in mind:

It has been a source of great pain to me to have met with so many among opponents who had not the liberality to distinguish between political and social opposition; who transferred at once to the person, the hatred they bore to his political opinions.
Thomas Jefferson, letter to Richard M. Johnson, 1808

I would be more than happy to share the extending of olive branches from right to left, and from left to right. There are several here I could name, but won't in case they would prefer that I don't, whose support and friendship have meant a great deal to me. We are political opposites, but of one mind when it comes to looking beyond the politics to the person. We are friends, neighbors, fellow Coloradans and, like a family, we fight, sometimes vehemently. What makes it OK is knowing that the fight is over ideas and opinions, not directed at the individual. Some here are better at this than others.....I'm trying to improve, but when attacked I will respond......it is not in my nature to accept abuse.

When I do get back to Colorado I look forward to meeting some of you, in person, as a neighbor not as a political adversary. I suspect we all have much in common if we look beyond the politics.

Archer both sides have the good and bads. What we need to realize is that the good ones are only interested in what is best for this country, the bad ones just need to go away. They are part of the problem not the solution. Disclosure: This is just my opinion only

I do not disagree with that but I have a different mindset on message boards. I see the posts as reflecting persona's not people. I know that the persona's reflected in the posts here are not the whole person and in some cases are a complete fabrication.

For example, I know that the people that I have on ignore are not as simple, immature and ignorant as their posts are. If they were, they would be unable to operate a key board. In person we might get allong and even agree on many things.

I think that helps from me taking any of this personally and I hope my posts reflect that.

Turn in your man card. It's over dude.
http://www.livescience.com/2360-busting ... l-age.html

The stereotype of a cranky old man, set in his ways, getting more conservative by the day, is an enduring one. But new research has debunked the myth that people become more conservative as they age.

By comparing surveys of various age groups taken over a span of more than 30 years, sociologists found that in general, Americans' opinions veer toward the liberal as they grow older.

"All the evidence we have found refutes the idea that as people age their attitudes become more conservative or more rigid," said Nicholas Danigelis, a sociologist at the University of Vermont. "It's just not true. More people are changing in a liberal direction than in a conservative direction."

Detailed study

Danigelis and collaborators Stephen Cutler of the University of Vermont and Melissa Hardy of Pennsylvania State University analyzed data from the U.S. General Social Surveys of 46,510 Americans between 1972 and 2004. While the surveys did not provide data for the same individuals at different stages, they represented snapshots of the changing attitudes of respondents in different age cohorts over time. The researchers corrected for the fact that the age groups at different survey times are made of up new members with unique baseline opinions.

The surveys assessed attitudes on politics, economics, race, gender, religion and sexuality issues. In some cases, such as racial issues and questions of civil liberties for communists, the researchers measured a greater change toward liberalism in older people than in younger people.

If this thread has done nothing else it has proven that there is more testosterone present in a Catholic Girls school. Pathetic really. But all reflective of the national epidemic.

Guess what Baileyboy, the folks you mention in all those studies are not becoming more liberal as they age, they are simply readopting, or reaffirming, the views of their youth. Think about that age group for just a minute and you will understand that these are the "Make Love, Not War" flowers in their hair, Beatnick, Hippie came of age post WWII generation that embraced the LBJ 'Great Society' nonsense that has sunk this nation $14 Trillion in the hole. Getting more liberal as they age? Hardly.

Also, FWIW, real men are chivalrous by their very nature. The mistreatment of a lady is anathema to a real man and he naturally comes to her defense. It is only the wimpy child who thinks himself a man who feels empowered by intentionally and maliciously seeking to denigrate a woman.

You haven't got the bull by the horns here laddy. You made the mistake of grabbing a tiger by the tail. Only question remaining now is are you smart enough to let go before the tiger gets annoyed.........
