Obama Is Still Lost and Without a Plan, When It Comes to Libya and the Middle East

President Obama remains lost on Libya, able only to articulate his desire to work through the fabled “international community.” Absent real leadership, his administration is falling back on the instinct displayed in each domestic and foreign crisis it has faced: deliberate interminably while substituting government process for real action.

Despite the all-purpose Obama administration mantra that “all options remain on the table,” Jay Carney, the president’s spokesman, said on Monday that “I think that it would be premature to send a bunch of weapons to a post office box in eastern Libya.” Thus spokesman Carney, who presumably is not empowered to make national security policy, all but ruled out helping rebel freedom fighters with intelligence, humanitarian assistance and military aid—steps that would make a difference without incurring an open-ended U.S. military commitment.

I still believe in "fools rush in where angels fear to tread........" We would be incredibly foolish to rush into Libya without enough intelligence and understanding and world support.....good for Obama not bending to those who have less knowledge than he does about the situation

sorry.....I don't know this other than the assumption (yep ASSUMPTION) that the president probably has better sources of information than the rest of us, and advisors that speak only to him and not us, and is in touch with other world leaders more than anyone else in this country. My apologies for making those assumptions,.

Obama is usually slow to respond to a crisis, possibly because he has never been a chief executive, but in this case, I think he is doing the right thing. The Libyan tribal situation is a lot like Afghanistan and if we support the eastern tribes over Qadaffi's western tribes, we could wind up fighting there for years.

If you read the article, it talks of all of the demonstrations in the middle east, including IRAN. He has done nothing, has no plan, and is definitely NOT the smartest man in the room.

being slow to respond is not necessarily because he has never been a chief executive. (yes, I noted that you said "possibly") Obama could be weighing a lot of options and being deliberate in his decision making, something I wish Bush would have done, especially before invading Iraq.

ok i might have agreed with you on this but after watching gw bush on oprah yesterday i tend to question this. gw surrounded himself with paulson and bernake and said he didn't have a clue about the impending economic problems. i believe him. surround yourself with people you want to hear from as a president and you will get only the perspective you want. so no i wouldn't make any assumptions that he has better sources of information unless he has the wherewithall to listen to opposing views and i really don't think that is necessarily happening.

Yes, by all means, let's rush in and start yet ANOTHER war... (The two unnecessary ones we're already engaged in aren't enough.) Let's go-it-alone and impose the no-fly zone, which will be seen as act-of-war by the U.S. on "Islam", i.e., Libya, and that will REALLY help us in the region...

I just love Neo-Cons... They STILL love the smell of napalm in the morning...whether it's appropriate or not.
