Scanner only, or ability to transmit also (properly licensed)?
VHF, UHF, 700/800 Mhz, digital, analog, trunking, narrowband, wideband, APCO 95?
Don't mean to get technical here, but there are multiple things to consider.
Most of the Fire departments in the Conifer/Bailey area are currently on analog VHF. Older scanners work great. If you want to have Evergreen, you need UHF capability. If you want to have Intercanyon, 800Mhz digital.
And, it is changing fairly rapidly.
So, you need to consider what you want, what you can afford, what you really need, etc.
(I knew I could get a in here somewhere! )
