Thanks Abner. Yes and no is the answer to your question. My "veneer" is not traditional in that it is over a 1/4 inch thick. Hence it more likely is inlay work, This was my second attempt at doing something like it. The first attempt was the jewelry cabinet. Different this time is my effort to gain more horizontal and vertical balance by butterflying and clicing up a single piece of spalted maple. That way I could better control grain and give the cabinet a sense of continuity between the drawers. I did the same thing on the top of the cabinet with an eye toward accentuating the radiating rays in the maple.

It's taken me a while to think of something for you to make. What I have in mind that may be fun is some toys that we can give away at Christmas time to needy families. These are pretty simple to make, though we'd need to get wheels for them.

BTW, it is a lot easier to make tapered legs on the table saw. I made a jig for that purpose and it fits into the slot for the cut off square.

I hesitate to offer, 'cause I tend to get involved in more than I can handle  , but I would be interested in more info regarding the toys, sounds like a great idea to me!

Here are some of the toys for which I have patterns. These could be made out of 2x 6 2x8 2x10 stock. I have a bunch of such cut offs that we could use to make toys for needy families at Christmas. It ties in with the thread "Christmas (and other) cheer for needy families". Details of what is going on with that can be found there.

Here's the next project for me:

(found this looking around for ideas --- looks fairly simple)

I'll do the top image - but will butt join with dowels.

Take a look at what you can do with a wooden pallet recovered from a dumpster.

(sorry rockdoc - nowhere near your level of talent - this is poor man's wood-working!)
