In this post about the deadly Big Thompson flood of 1976, a list of other deadly Colorado floods included a 1904 flood near Pueblo and the 1997 flash flood that claimed five lives in Fort Collins. But one Front Range flood was missing.
The Bear Creek Canyon flood on July 7, 1933 was a two-mile-long cloudburst that deluged three gulches along Bear Creek, reportedly arriving in the town of Starbuck (now Idledale) in a gush 20 feet high before rushing on through Morrison.
Scanner is reporting a restaurant in downtown Evergreen is beginning to flood. Unclear on which one..
Scanner is also reporting two kayakers in the water near downtown Evergreen. (WTH)
Awesome post about the Morrison flood Frog! Let's never lose sight of the fact that flooding isn't new to the front range of Colorado but it's also not the norm. If we get this kind of weather every 30-ish years then we ought to be smart enough to recognize that and avoid building on sights that have flooded before. Or maybe not, accept the risk and pay the penalties for building in flood zones anyhow.
Either way, I don't regard the current floods as 30 year events. I think these floods are more like 100 or even 500 year events, we don't see this much rain concentrated in specific areas very often. Then again consider that Colorado has highly predictable weather patterns, that explains it all!
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Bear Creek Picture: Rising and Flowing Fast - Be Prepared
This photo was taken at Cold Springs Gulch Road which is just east of Kittredge on Highway 74. It was shot at 7:25 PM this evening (9/15) The picture shows the severity of the current conditions. The river is flowing swift and high and more rain is coming. Please plan ahead and be prepared should conditions further develop.
Thanks jf, I was just asking them that very question!
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
