Jefco Sheriff 1:00am UPDATE: Fire is now at 100 acres. We are in the process of evacuating the following 3 subdivisions: Deer Creek Mesa, Sampson, and Maxwell. Approximately 300 homes are being evacuated via Lookout Alert and door-to-door. The fire was discovered by a #Jeffco Deputy around 9pm. The fire is moving South-Southeast. #QuarryFire #QuarryFire

This fire is still growing during the nighttime hours. When the sun comes up tomorrow and the temps start to rise, it's going to cause it to grow much faster. PLEASE be ready watching for updates from the Sheriff's Office and fire districts, and be prepared to evacuate quickly. It is July 31st at 1:20 AM. The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office has issued an evacuation order for Kuehster, McKinney Ranch, Murphy Gulch due to a wildfire . There is a threat to your safety and you should leave this area immediately. An evacuation center has been established at Dakota Ridge High School 13399 West Coal Mine Avenue. If you need help to evacuate, call 9 1 1 immediately. Large animals and livestock may be taken to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds; pets may be taken to the evacuation center or Foothills Animal Shelter. Incredibly proud and thankful for our Jeffco Sheriff’s Office and firefighters who are working tirelessly around the clock to tackle the Quarry Fire in Deer Creek Canyon in South Jeffco.
A Jeffco Sheriff’s Deputy on evening patrol spotted a ten-by-ten fire and within a few hours the fire grew to 100 acres blazing in rugged, steep terrain full of scrub oak – and rattlesnakes. Scrub oak flared as much as 50 feet throughout the night. We don’t know the cause yet. Investigations are underway, according to JCSO’s Mark Techmeyer.
What we know:
The quarry fire is now at 130 acres.
Zero containment.
No injuries or property lost at this time.
5 subdivisions are under evacuation affecting 570 homes (see post below).
Silver Ranch and Silver Ranch South on pre-evac notices.
Evac center at Dakota Ridge High School. Unclear when mandatory evacs will be lifted.
Deputies and firefighters went door to door and woke up residents throughout the night. Efforts continue this morn to alert residents.
Jeffco Fairgrounds is accepting animal evacuations.
More than one dozen fire agencies are here to help battle the blaze with 70-80 boots on the ground, accdg to JCSO. Two other major fires are underway in state and resources are thin. Jeffco has requested air support. JCSO hopes to know by mid-morning.
Heat, treacherous conditions, and thin resources are resulting in a tough battle ahead.
