Maybe. Or maybe he would have gotten one that worked a lot sooner.

I have had the privilege of being close to quite a number of people with ADD/ADHD and I would agree that they tend to think outside the box. Not so sure I'd agree that medication removes that ability. It might discourage a person from pursuing 15 great ideas all at once, but if you have ADHD yourself you know that all too often leads to none of them coming to fruition.

I think that while ADD/ADHD often inspires creative thinking, it can at the same time hamper performance in actually following through with those creative thoughts. So medication is a trade-off. And I've even seen adults with ADD/ADHD play with their meds so that when they are brainstorming, they are free to let those "crazy" popcorn ideas pop out freely, then when they need to concentrate, they can medicate if they choose to. The best of both worlds, in some ways.

a) Meds help in the short term

b) I don't think meds are a decent long-term solution (addiction, failure to learn how to cope)

c) I have days that are HELL thanks to ADHD (job, family, etc)

d) I think ADHD is a common situation - it needs not be considered a "disorder."
(it can create advantages in some parts of life)
It's only a "disorder" in that it creates behaviors and thoughts that are outside-the-box.

If Edidson were medicated, we'd still be living without the lightbulb.

I'm ADD, not hyper, so I'm sure the symptoms are slightly different...
a) Meds help me whenever I need to take them - when coping skills aren't cutting it.
b) No problem with addiction when I'm only taking them once or twice a week at the most. Otherwise I use coping skills.
c) I'm with you there. Some Saturdays my wife has said "Meds or I'm gonna hit you..." She's only half joking.
d) It's not a disorder or a handicap - it's just a personality trait.

If Edison were medicated, he would have been able to put down the 23 other ideas he kept jumping to and gotten the uilb done 5 years earlier.

It seems as if all you people are broken down, unhealthy, unable to reproduce normally, are contributing faulty genes into the national gene pool, and are pathetic.

Are there no healthy, vibrant individuals here? What happened to the rugged pioneer stock?

Alot of people pair up because they find that having a properly functioning brain that doesn't belch out crap like your post is more important than having 'pioneer stock'.
