I would ask when I want to learn more about a statement. It happens in normal conversation, i.e. "Where did you hear that?"

Sorry kresspin, I just get tired of people suggesting that all conservatives think or act a certain way. You don't have to say "all" if it is implied in your statement. I'm sure I've done the same thing but I'm trying to be more open minded and not play the label game....it's getting old and adds nothing to any topic other than fuel for anger.
