For or Against?

How do you feel about the government going after employers that hire illegals when those audits may cause the company to go under?

For me......bring it on, it's about time we targeted the sources of jobs for illegals.

The Obama administration intensified a crackdown on employers of illegal immigrants, notifying another 1,000 companies in all 50 states Wednesday the government plans to inspect their hiring records.
Businesses across the U.S. that rely on low-skilled labor are working to stave off Immigration and Customs Enforcement audits, which can lead to the loss of large numbers of employees, reduced productivity and legal expenses.

<snip>

Entire sectors have come to rely on illegal workers. Clothing maker American Apparel laid off more than a quarter of its factory workers, or 1,500 employees, after an audit in 2009. It later blamed the audit for a loss of productivity that brought it to the brink of bankruptcy.

<snip>

Illegal immigrants are the backbone of some sectors of U.S. agriculture. "Given the fact that, admittedly, 70% to 80% of our work force is improperly documented, ICE audits can eliminate that percentage of our productive capacity. You cannot stay in business," said Tom Nassif, president of Western Growers, an association of fruit and vegetable growers and packers in California and Arizona.

I agree completely. Cut off the income source for them and the problem may abate.

Sounds reasonable to me. What your quote doesn't mention is what happens to the illegals. Do we just let them go to the next employer and then repeat? It's already illegal to employ an illegal, and it's already illegal to be he undocumented....BOTH laws should be enforced. Unfortunately, I doubt this administration has any plans to deport these illegals, it's enough to have one bad guy (the employer) and then prop up the illegals as the "victims". Works pretty well to keep that Hispanic vote.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Do you honestly think the Republican house would allow the administration enough money to actually put some teeth into ICE?.....do you have any idea how expensive it is to deport hundreds of thousands of people? If, however, we can take away the incentive to be here......jobs...we get a cheap, however slow, way of encouraging them to go home.

I still believe we need a comprehensive immigration plan...but neither party has the guts to do anything about it....so kudos to the prez for doing what he can with the budget he does have.

AZ has this same issue.....a law that allows them to pick up lots of illegals, but no money to do anything with them.

We need a very BIG appropriations bill to deal with illegals effectively, but I seriously doubt we will get it.

For - if the illegals are deported. It's like a two headed snake - tackling one at a time is just gonna end badly.

Agree with Archer "Bring it on".

Agriculture does have the need to dramatically increase their workforce during different times of the year. They do need to bring in short term workers. There are already means in place to bring in seasonal workers, and ensure they return to their home countries. Agriculture needs to step up to the plate.

Does anybody actually think the Dems in the Senate or the Administration would approve such an action that might offend hispanic "voters"??

The president already is....and isn't it the right that keep telling us that hispanics dislike illegals as much as anyone? Dealing with that issue might get more votes.
