Wait, aren't those large corporations? Is General Electric left leaning?

Let me see if I understand this....

You claim General Election Corporation is left leaning and you use a site that advertises "Help us stop Obama's RADICAL transformation of America" as proof? (I think that's what you meant by posting a link with no comment)

I understand you would rather attack the source than discuss the issue. OK, choose your own,

No, I wouldn't like to discuss the issue because nobody in this discussion is NBC and therefore everyone is only guessing at what motivated them. I have no way of knowing NBC motives, but as long as we're guessing... Perhaps it was edited to fit a 60-second hole? Perhaps it was edited by someone who didn't think it should be in there and it wasn't reviewed before air?

Again, that's just a guess and not an excuse for what they did. They did apologize in the middle of the golf coverage for the omission.

I'm also old enough to remember when we had to start saying "under God" in school.

The original 1892 pledge by Francis Bellamy was actually quite short.

It was also written by a "socialist" (said in a dirty sort of way, like "community organizer"), according to Wikipedia. There was also the "Belamy Flag Salute" that was to be used by students:

Think we should bring that back, too, since it has been dropped?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance

I also read in the above article that only half the states require school children to recite the pledge. How come nobody seems to have expressed displeasure over that? It seems to me to have a bigger impact than something aired in a televised golf tournament on a single TV network on a single day. But then, that falls under "States Rights," right?

I'm Offended!!!! No reason just because it's the fad, now.

BTW: The Bellamy salute is the salute described by Francis Bellamy (1855–1931) to accompany the American Pledge of Allegiance, which he had authored. During the period when it was used with the Pledge of Allegiance, it was sometimes known as the "flag salute". During the 1920s and 1930s, Italian fascists and Nazis adopted salutes which were similar in form, resulting in controversy over the use of the Bellamy salute in the United States. It was officially replaced by the hand-over-heart salute when Congress officially amended the Flag Code on 22 December 1942.

"Under God" was added many years after that salute Wayne, (don't be silly) let's just say in as it is today OK.
In all fairness if you look at the spot, it does appear that they cut the sound of the kids saying the pledge, to insert the pictures of the color guard, rising the flag, then they cut back to the kids saying the pledge. Now, the timing could have been off, or they could have done it with intent, or the editor is just a frick'in moron.

Wayne, "They did apologize in the middle of the golf coverage for the omission." AFTER they're phone lines and e-mail got swamped with po'd people, we'll never know if those at the time, didn't call/e-mail, if NBC would have apologized or not!

Question: WHY did all those folks just assume that NBC would leave that phase, (as well as the other), out?

Could it be that NBC, MAY have accidently showen they're true colors AGAIN?

RED!!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't RED one of the colors of our flag?

And yes, the Bellamy Salute was replaced after Hitler's Nazis and other groups co-opted it. But it was ours first -- a show of allegiance toward OUR flag.

You do bring up an interesting point, though: I wonder if the pledge was running straight through and the other images were just inserted OVER parts of the pledge.

But my question would be: do you think NBC intentionally left out "under God" thinking no one would notice? And if no one would notice, what would be the point of doing it?

So, "Under God" was added in 1954, during the McCarthy-era hysteria.... I'm glad we got all that information about Nazi salutes out of the way, and the "under God" deflection stuff out of the way.... So, we can continue the outrage-of-the-day about what was left out of the TV clip.

(Interesting that they are not particularly outraged about "INDIVISIBLE" being left out--but leave out "under God", and there's hell to pay! It's so good that we have all of the conservative watchdog groups around to make sure it doesn't slip by.

So, I'M OUTRAGED that "INDIVISIBLE" got left out... (and I could care less if "under God" did... Personally, I haven't said the words "under God" since about 1960... I'm not "pledging allegiance" to God...I thought it was to the flag...)

Nope. I don't set the "standard" (whatever that is). I just give my personal opinion.

To be clear: I thought what NBC did was stupid.

Do I think whoever put that together for a golf game did it under orders from "on high" as part of an agenda?

No, I don't.
