WTH? why cant' the pledge of allegiance be considered the history of america. There is nothing wrong with it. This is the problem with political correctness. Many people that feel like religions push themselves on others are just as bad by making fun of religions and saying god cannot be mentioned. Just look at it and move on. You live in the freeest nation on earth. Live and let live and stop wasting time with pushing your crap on others. the vast majority believes in god
Maybe everyone needs a lesson on how to make everyone happy from a message forum.
Screw political correctness, I have no problem saying the pledge. It is part of America. I have no problem saluting the flag, or standing for the National Anthem and saluting, or saying welcome home to the troops and thank you. The Pledge is part of our heritage.
I guess this would be a good place to bring up the American's Creed that was written in 1917 and adopted by the House a year later:
I believe in the United States of America, as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; a democracy in a republic; a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.
I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
Our nation would be much better off adopting this and teaching it to the posterity than it would be in continuing to use the Pledge of Allegiance. The use of "inseparable" is still a bit troublesome as could be taken to imply that the states may not separate themselves from the union though. If "inseparable" is seen as meaning that coordinate sovereignty is an integral part of that perfect union, however, then it does a much better job of informing the populace and explaining our system of government in proper terms.
