And the American people are being held hostage.

Heartless: I don't care one way or t' other if one of our politicians spent time in the military.

It's the comparisons to something they've never experienced that bothers me.

He could have likened the discussions to sharing a bathroom with 10 siblings, and I would have been OK with that 'cuz he's experienced that.

And by them, you mean all of 537 (435 Representatives, 100 Senators and 2 executives) of them, right?

Point taken. Besides doesn't the Navy discourage foxholes aboard ship?
Politicians are used to extreme exaggeration, and it just weakens their credibility.

Boehner has never been in a foxhole and only spent 8 weeks in the Navy, then was medically discharged for a bad back.

He really has NO clue what it is like to be in a foxhole with bullets whizzing by, and grenades and other explosives going off all around you, and having to be in that hole with a buddy with little food or water. Maybe your buddy dies next to you and you have to stay there for several days. You can't get out to relieve yourself and if there is a break and you are able to go away to take care of your business, there certainly is no porcelain throne to use or even a Port-A-Potty. You are wearing the same clothes, including a flak jacket and helmet for days on end. And you have to share watch duties with your buddy...which means you aren't getting a whole lot of sleep.

It really pisses me off that this guy who wears a suit to work every day, sleeps in a bed, uses a modern bathroom complete with toilet and shower every day, eats at least 3 square hot meals a day, and has access to the most modern of amenities is comparing what he is doing to what our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen do. Especially when if this whole thing doesn't go anywhere these people and our veterans will not be paid.

Yep...I'm also not happy that my veteran's retirement pay and disability pay may not get to me if these jokers don't do something.

So only combat veterans should send our young men off to war?
While I have never been in a foxhole during combat conditions, I can understand how horrible it is. And I do know Boehner was exaggerating, but politicians do that all the time. Even athletes do that, calling their contests war, or comparing the gridiron to being in the trenches.

SS: I'm not understanding your comment...I was only mentioning that Boehner has never spent any measurable time in the military and to compare what he is doing to being in a foxhole, especially 'cuz those actually in the foxhole may not get paid, is grossly exaggerated.

I was saying nothing about him sending anyone off to war or about any of our politicians sending anyone off to war.

:yeahthat: especially about the weakened credibility.

I don't know that there is enough dirt aboard a ship for a foxhole...same could be said on an Air Force bases flightline (and I know for certain that holes and Foreign Objects that could harm aircraft engines are REALLY discouraged).

Not defensive archer, just wanting to make sure I clearly understood your comment with certitude.
