Bachmann's Former Church Defends Anti-Catholic Views

WASHINGTON (RNS) The Lutheran denomination that GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann quit in June sought to explain its belief that the papacy is the anti-Christ after reports questioned whether Bachmann is anti-Catholic.

Six days before Bachmann officially launched her presidential campaign last month, the Minnesota Republican and her family verbally requested to leave Salem Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minn., which is part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS).

Synod spokesman Joel Hochmuth said Thursday (July 14) the Bachmanns had been members of Salem Lutheran for more than a decade, but had not attended the church for at least two years. They did not request a transfer to another congregation, he said.

The denomination says on its website: "We identify the anti-Christ as the papacy. This is an historical judgment based on Scripture."

Hmmmm.... So, they had been members of this anti-Catholic church for more than a decade... This is sounding strangely familiar...somehow...

I'm starting to see a pattern here LJ.....Is there any non liberal woman that doesn't drive you completely nuts? And if you never thought that Obama's "church situation" was a big deal, why then is this? So Bachmans church was anti Catholic, while Obama's was anti-American and anti-white. Maybe you can find one of the members of Bachman's church who was an ex clan member like "kkk Byrd" to attempt an equalization.

I think you just need to relax a bit until there is an actual Republican nominee....just a thought.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Oh, but it's such a "target-rich environment"... With this many bat-sh*t-crazy loonies to choose from, the entertainment value is unbelievable....

Yeah, I see a pattern here too... Anything that Obama does is bad; and anything that a conservative does that's THE SAME THING is okay... Hypocrisy at its finest....

I see no hypocrisy here. Why should I give a sh#t about someone who won't be the Republican nominee? And just because I'm not digging into every candidates past and I'm not reporting to everyone, every little fault, that does not mean I agree with those possible faults. I still have a life.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

I think we are at least making progress here.

The previous thread about this accused the whole GOP of being bigots based on one person's former church.

Now at least we are just talking about that one person's former church. Progress is good. lol

But, but, she had 10 years to leave the church and its anti-Catholic positions... That means she agreed with them...

(And we know about her anti-gay stances... And her anti-"Sharia Law" stances--[which is code for: anti-Muslim]...) So, I guess if you're white, straight, and the right-kind of Christian, you're her kind of constituent...

(I wonder if she can see the Vatican from her front porch?)

Really digging deep, must be afraid.
BTW, I HAVE A LOT of ANTI-CATHOLIC VIEWS too, and so does the Bible.
Am I bad, or good in your eyes?

Yes, just like Obama's FORMER church had a pastor that railed against the racism of the 60's...

You don't get me, do you? Why do think I would personally care what one group of delusional people think about another group of delusional people? Do you think I give a s***?

It's not "good" or "bad"...It's irrelevant....

You are correct, I don't get you about 90% of the time. Especially on this one. More more important stuff to ding Bachman on than some church she once attended years ago.

Maybe reset your Google cut and paste searches to "Important news" instead of "Anti-Republican women fluff"?
