I haven't seen it used except as a way to cheap-shot somebody or something. I have yet to see it ever done in a constructive manner. I know I haven't done it because I don't really participate there any more, and even though I occasionally read it for amusement, I see no point in trashing someone behind their back where they have no chance to respond and defend themselves. Obviously, some here have no such reservation.

Whatever you decide, SC, is okay by me... But frankly, I don't see that much good comes of it.

Businesses are public entities. Example - one of my side businesses is on Etsy - that makes it public. If I don't deliever what you asked for, in a timely manner, and you come here and say so and so (business name) didn't do the work I contracted for, never use them. Fine. As a business, I can defend myself, or attempt to make ammends. You are doing a public service.

However, you take someone's nickname from the site that shall not be named, and say _______on PC is a raving lunatic, that's getting personal, is not a public service, and likely the person is not here to defend themselves. I may get into it here with someone a great deal, but I don't go to PC or any other forum wih his screen name and talk about how I feel about him. I save that for here.

And honestly, when someone describes a person from a forum or the community that most of us have had dealings with, then it's pretty clear who the person is, as latest case shows.

I'm ready to go either way - but if the community has a rule about no screen names of private individuals, then that's fine by me.

I think exception to this rule might be in case of an emergency, a fire, etc - when you can say - hey, did you hear that _____ had a huge fire at their house, and even though they aren't part of here, can we help them out? Or pray for _____ because they have surgery today. This has already been done here with no issue. But for bashing and bad mouthing?Keep it relatively anonymous.

I think you need to go with you gut here and what feels right to you as the owner of your business. Truth is SC, you're not going to make everyone happy all of the time. There are people out there that like to take their grumpiness out on others for no reason and you will never please them............so basically, quit trying.

The bottom line is that the decisions JMC and CG made in the beginning, and the decision you've made since then, comes from a good place. You're not trying the kiss PC's a**, but you are being a thoughtful member of this community.

Whether we can names nics or not really doesn't matter to me. I agree with CB that it does seem like your being b*tchy and immature when you feel the need to do that. Trust me, when this site first opened I had QUITE A FEW things to say about certain people at PC (and some now here) that were very hateful to me and I was never able to address them because I was banned. Did it look bad here when I did it? Yep........so I read, but I don't care and I got it off my chest and moved on.

I would NEVER b*tch here about the way you guys run/ran this site. EVER! Grow the h*ll up and act like an adult! Those over at PC that act like idiot control freaks are total losers. Do we really need to sink to their level???????????

I don't like bullies no matter which site they are on. JMO

Imagine SC walking into someone else's business and b*tching that they change their policy because YOU don't like it. What do you think "their" reaction would be? :Whistle

I'm going with the trend here. Cliquishness and Backbiting is what most people complain about with the other site. Why would you encourage it's continuance over here? When my daughter broke up with her bf she kept tabs on him. I reminded her the opposite of love isn't hate, it's indifference. You can't force people to behave in a healthy or polite manner, but you can discourage outright inappropriatness. You are trying a different formula here. So far, so good. Don't fix what isn't broken.

I don't think posts should be edited to eliminate nicknames. If it can come up on a google search, I see no reason that anything should be edited out.

For instance: I googled "LadyJazzer" - using you as an example LJ, because it's a fairly unique nickname (Hope you don't mind). I looked at a couple of threads from other boards, and wound up at this post written by another user, not LJ, that made me giggle:

I won't even give them the satisfaction of rejecting me..In fact I wont even look at it "

From here: http://s1.zetaboards.com/285Freetalk/topic/3364581/1/ .

I believe that a link should be required in order to verify the accuracy of the quote.

********* typed it, posted it, and it got picked up by the web spiders and stored in their cache. Even if he went back to edit it now, it's still out there. It's public domain, regardless of what his real estate lawyer says.

I blanked out the user name, but anyone following the link will see it. I think it's silly to make something anonymous when by posting it, the original author obviously thought it was worth reading - and by posting it, made it available for comment by any and all readers.

The internet is a very public place. It's a billboard. If you value the privacy of your thoughts, keep them in your head.

I don't visit PC enough to know if people there post stuff about what people say here. Whether they do or not, does it not bring this site down to a lower level if it is seen as being hostile toward individuals on another site...those individuals who could likely be your neighbors?

The thing I loved about Conifer back in the 70s and 80s was that sense of community and being separated from the brown cloud of Denver (when there was a serious brown cloud). We felt lucky to be more tight knit that the suckers who were stuck in traffic jams and had to deal with crime and rude people on a daily basis.

I think too many people from the flatlands have infected that beautiful area. Take the high road and accept your neighbors as friends. I think many on PC are not comfortable with the kind of discussions we have over here and that's their prerogative. In fact, if it was me in charge, I would lock the "PC mods are Aholes" thread and just move on. I see no upside to being the instigator....this site has already proven itself....if you build it RIGHT, they will come.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Ahh, that thread brought back good memories! Thanks NTM!

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
