Get rich young man, go into public service like Congressman, Senators and union prison guards earning 100K a year, allowed to retire early on a generous pension.

But we aren't talking about Congressmen, Senators, and $100K/year people are we... We're talking about teachers, trash collectors, cops, firemen, and the people that DON'T make $100K/year. So, you can take your elitist right-wing talking points and shove 'em... Nice generalization, but it doesn't hold water.

What are you talking about LJ? The average annual compensation for teachers in Milwaukee public schools is $100K as a result of the conflict of interest collective bargaining agreements. I'm certain that the employees collecting the trash don't earn that much in salary and benefits, but the teachers certainly do.

Not exactly comparing apples and orange here, but a few things that favor the public school teachers over the private citizen.
1) Very low firing rate.
2) Only work 9 months a year.
3) If they are in Colorado's PERA, their benefits increase by 7% per year no matter what the market does. How much would that be worth if you could find a private pension plan like that?
4) Able to retire early, and that PERA pension plan is guaranteed by the courts and will be paid for by the taxpayers. And you can retire even earlier if you want to buy years.
5) Subsidized healthcare. Another benefit over private employees.

So the teacher I know with a masters is earning 60K after 15 years in Jeffco is actually doing pretty well even if she isn't taking home 100K per year.

Yep, it is so wrong to make any criticism of teachers. Even though test scores are flat, meanwhile class sizes have been decreasing over the past 20 years.

I know parents and kids are part of the issue, but teachers also need to be looked at.

You're sucking up that Kool-Aid again... I don't know where you're getting that $100K figure, but as usual, it's a lie...
