Just like with Bush, he is not on vacation, he is working from a different location.

Correct. The modern President no longer ever really goes on vacation, but getting away from Washington must still be a relief. Even congressman on vacation are working fund raisers and meet and greets while on "recess".

But to the liberals defending the POTUS, if you boss told you he was cutting everyone's hours by 40% and then went on a paid vacation for a month in Hawaii, would you be a little upset? He is paying for it himself afterall.

Vacations for Presidents, how this has changed! FDR used to take the train down to Georgia for weeks at a time even when World War II was raging.

That's happened to me and yes, I was pissed. But the question still remains, is there ever an appropriate time for the President to go on vacation during a recession? When should he have gone and where? Should he have waited another week? Two? A month? A year? Never? What time frame would make you happy?

Should he have gone to the Ozarks? Maybe to Kansas City instead of the Vineyard? Maybe he should have just made a little fort out of cushions in the Oval Office and had a staycation?

If this was the first time the right had whined about Obama taking a vacation, I might buy that your outrage is because of the timing......but every time he has taken a vacation with his family.......which he pays for......the right has whined and complained about it. It looks to me more about who is taking the vacation, not about the vacation itself. Previous presidents have taken vacations, especially when congress is on recess, that indicates good timing not bad. There is little he can do till congress is back in session.....and every presidential vacation is a working vacation, they don't get two weeks off from the responsibility, just from the location.

Buy hey, if you are so hard up for something to bitch about, have at it.

Spin spin spin. What you neglect to acknowledge is the fact our country is in very poor shape. Perhaps a better comparison would be to look at what a president did for vacation during the great depression. I've not researched it, but at least then we are talkig about the same thing. It's being willingly stupid to compare Obama's vacation with those of previous presidents who held office during a time when our country prospered or was much better than it is today. Also, if Obama is paying for his own vacation and it's so expensive, then he is not entirely poor is he? I doubt you or I could afford to go there even when we were making money at our peak.

Have you written to your senator and your congress persons about their taking vacations? I will say it again .......this seems more about WHO is taking the vacation than about the fact that a vacation is being taken. And yes, if you go back and look at Bush's presidency he did indeed take vacation while our nation was fighting 2 wars. He was also on vacation in August 2001 when the intelligence community was telling him about an imminent threat from Al Quada. Being on "vacation" does not mean a president isn't actively engaged in running the presidency, or handling day-to-day matters. From day one of Obama's presidency the right has criticised him for anything and everything he does in his personal life....he plays golf, so has nearly every other president we ever had, but the right doesn't like him playing golf. He travels around the world, so has most every president we have ever had, but the right doesn't like Obama traveling around the world.

What's next.....criticising the kind of toilet paper the White House uses? The right didn't even like the dog they chose. It would be funny if it wasn't so blatantly obvious that, because you all hate the man, you have to nit pick everything he does in his personal life.

"W" stopped playing golf halfway through his term. lol That showed that he did get smarter in office since I think golf is a waste of time and space.

And we aren't begrudging his "vacation", just his location.

Sure sounds like you're begrudging his vacation, since the timing seemed pretty critical in one of your previous posts.

Where do you suggest he go that would satisfy your requirements?

Nothing would satisfy the right at this point......BTW, Martha's Vineyard is very beautiful, very private, and probably a much easier place to protect the president than some crowded resort........thus saving the tax payers some money. The president pays for his family's vacation, we pay for the protection, just as we have for every president no matter where they go. Why do some of you think you should decide where the president should take a vacation.....my parents, who were strictly middle class Americans, vacationed there several times. Sheesh.....what a bunch of biddies you all are.

Dear Obama, please stay on vacation. Even though it is expensive it has to be cheaper than all your screwups. The stimulus package got us nowhere just deeper in debt.

IN NOVEMBER 2014, WE HAVE A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO CLEAN OUT THE ENTIRE HOUSE AND ONE-THIRD OF THE SENATE! DONT BLOW IT!

“When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex. Only whit man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that.” Indian Chief Two Eagles

Amen

He does pay for food, PREPARED by a chef that is on our dime, his securtity is on the peoples dime, transportation is on the people, etc. So the perks are well beyond JQ public.
