US becoming a food stamp nation.

SC, One fact you missed in your data is the expansion of eligibility for Food stamps under Obama. Its not just for families with dependents anymore, this is a pretty big change in scope for the program. Just Google "Hipster food stamps"

So both the recession and eligibility rules added to the increase in food stamp usage. Just sayin.

"But they also note that recent changes made to the program as part of last year's stimulus package, which relaxed the restrictions on able-bodied adults without dependents to collect food stamps, have made some young singles around the country eligible for the first time."

Now, let the arrows fly from the usual looneys. LOL!

Good... If they're hungry, and qualify, why should they be disqualified because they don't have dependents? Does that make them any less hungry?

Bread and circuses? It the people have their junk food and American Idol, they won't riot like those ungrateful Brits! Or elect a President who will make conditions better for hiring.

Most states have controls in place that will reject junk food purchases on the debit-cards. To keep harping on "junk food purchases" is disingenuous, at best. (ALL states should have it in place, but some are lazy...)

Hunger is hunger... Deal with it.

Oh, wait, I forgot... You're worried about there being a shortage of "fruits and vegetables" because a few school kids got free lunches. How silly of me. My bad.

You have incorrect info. While WIC does have requirements about what food can be purchased in benefits, some urban areas in "food deserts" are now allowing the food stamp debit cards to be used at fast food places.

Well Mickey D's on 285 at Broadway stood up. One of my boys said yesterday a woman was having a hissy fit because they wouldn't accept her food stamps for her purchase. He said it got so bad the manager stated he was calling the police, she left after throwing some napkins on the floor.
All the patrons had a good laugh afterwards.

That's not pathetic. A Big Mac is a luxury item. There are far more cost-effective quick meals available in the grocery store that owns the parking lots that most McDonald's occupy. Food stamps should be used in the most cost effective way.

I don't think it's too much to ask a food stamp recipient to spend their own cash for fast food and save the aid money for better values.

The Left also rationalizes that the poor and homeless don't have the education or equipment to cook their own meals, one reason they now want to offer 3 hot meals a day for poor school kids and I can imagine if you only have a shopping cart, it can be hard to cook a hot, 4 course meal.
