Oh, and the CAP is honorable service to other citizens of the US.

From their website:

On May 26, 1948, Congress passed Public Law 557 permanently establishing Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the new U.S. Air Force. Three primary mission areas were set forth at that time: aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services.

Perhaps everyone is judging whatever it's name is today too harshly? I want to believe there are places in CONUS that any aircraft is likely to receive small arms fire if they get too close to sensitive areas like moonshine stills and fields of pot.

It's probably pretty scary to fly over such a site at 200-ish MPH at angels 12 with the threat of any thing from a .22 to a .30-30 round or two well out of range. In fact, unless you happened to get the angel of approach right and see the muzzle flash it would be hard to tell that anyone was shooting at you. The threat is there none the less...

What ever your name is today, if you need a can of creamed corn and some smashed tatters that bad let me know, I'll mail 'em to you 4th class US mail.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

PA-128-140's only go about 100kts, so yes, it required courage. You try flying across lake Michigan alone, in the winter, when youre only 14 years old-that dark water is scary.

Someone had to do it

Conservation Voice wrote: Google: The CAP is not a military organization. CAP is not part of the Armed Forces of the United States, and CAP members are civilians, not military personnel by any stretch of the imagination. Members are not subject to the military code of conduct.

If your unit is really that in the dark, you might need to bring some people in from Group or something and get your leaders, both cadet and senior, some orientation and professional development training. This is a basic characteristic of our organization. It's akin to being in some other organization and not knowing whether it's a charity or a for-profit company.

Civil Air Patrol is a corporation, created by Public Law, with humanitarian missions (AE, CP, ES). CAP enjoys the status of the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, but we are the civilian auxiliary.

(The final test to prove CAP is not military is that some members can't even spell veteran correctly)

Right to the Point, CV I am a former member. Was in it for about 5 years. Would have stayed, but got busy with the VFW

ok..One more time

On May 26, 1948, Congress passed Public Law 557 permanently establishing Civil Air Patrol as the auxiliary of the new U.S. Air Force. Four primary mission areas were set forth at that time: aerospace education, cadet programs, emergency services, and civil defense.

Though an excellent program, Civil Air Patrol is not the military.

Wrong! My card gets me right in everywhere. 1/2 price at Air Force Football games at their ticket box

The only one wrong here is you, It is not the military, never has been the military and never will be the military. As a former member of CAP I know exactly what CAP is and about.
