I disagree with what you've written. Tebow mentions his faith more than frequently. Most interviews start of with "I'd like to thank my personal lord and savior...." and even in radio commercials, he ends his advertisement with "God bless." If that's not pushing your beliefs on those listening, I'd hate to see what you consider being pushy.

Don't get me wrong, I like Tebow. From what I've heard about him, he does a lot of wonderful things for the community and seems to have his head on straight in terms of not letting fame go to his head.

Kate, there is a huge difference between pushing and expressing one's belief and if you were to be honest for just one moment and do a little research you will discover a whole host of other athletes who have done the same thing. You say that he does it more frequently than others. What is the frequency you can tolerate today tomorrow? No one is telling you how you need to live your life, yet you wish to tell other how they need to live their lives because it offends you. How hypocritical is that? Time for you to look in the mirror.

I'm glad you recognize Tebow as a person not just as someone with a deep belief in Christianity. That young man has a great deal of depth. Oh, and just for the record. I'm spiritual not religious.

:yeahthat: (and I'm an atheist)... and Kate is a bigot.

Please explain how that makes me a bigot. I'll wait.

Rockdoc, there are others who express their beliefs. Of that I have no doubt, but Tebow says something about his god every time he's interviewed. Do the others that you mention also do that? Not to my knowledge. Tebow takes every opportunity, even in commercials, to mention his faith. Why can't he just be a football player and not someone who proselytizes every chance he gets? Should every business meeting in an office begin with a "Before we start the meeting, I'd just like to thank my personal lord and savior...." and end with "So, let's adjourn the meeting and god bless"?

Like I said, he's a great guy and a good role model, but it seems that he is using his microphone time to push his faith.

"Bigot" is in the same category as "socialist"... He can't define it, but he "knows one when he sees one"... ad nauseum...

Kate, you seem to equate pushing with expressing. Pushing or witnessing aka Mormon's practice of coming to your house is a form of pushing Someone at a party who insists on talking to you about their faith is pushing it. If someone says God bless, they are not pushing it in my view. They are not trying to convince me to be a Christian. If Tebow wishes to thank a lord I don't happen to think exists, it is his belief he is expressing but he is not pushing it one me. He is not asking me to pray with him.

As far as other sports figures go who express their faith more publicly I said all you had to do is some research. Here is one who was just among our midst.

Who Is The Most Vocal Christian In NFL?

“It is odd that there are more outspoken Christians on the Denver Broncos like Brian Dawkins. It is odd that Tebow has become this figure,” Patton Dodd told the national newspaper.

Pittsburgh Steelers star Troy Polamalu is most often mentioned by fellow players for his spiritual devotion, according to Dodd, who authored The Tebow Mystique. Polamalu, famous for his long hair and huge hits, actually prays during the action.

The difference is that Tebow gets more media exposure and thus you happen to hear him more than some of the others. Further, if you do a little research, like you should before jumping to conclusions, you would find the in the past there were other prominent sports figures who were far more outspoken than Tebow has ever been.

And that is where we differ. I see his expressed faith as pushing, you see it as just talk. That's fine - we disagree.

Just for perspective:

I often think about Troy Polamalu, who you will hear Pittsburgh Steelers players say is the most religious athlete in football,” Dodd told USA Today. “He crosses himself before every play and sometimes after. He prays during plays

You're the one that's claiming that Tebow is "pushing" his faith on you. What do I have to explain? You're making the bigoted statements about Christians and their faith... you've been doing all the talking about it on this thread. You done a marvelous job of explaining yourself. If you don't like me pointing out what you are... then stop making the bigoted statements.
