Reflections of Roe vs. Wade

This Boomer will continue to fight for choice, and if you don't like abortion, don't have one. Outside of that, it's none of your business.

Thanks, Arlen. You never disappoint.

In 1916, [Margaret] Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in the United States, which led to her arrest for distributing information on contraception. Her subsequent trial and appeal generated enormous support for her cause. Sanger felt that in order for women to have a more equal footing in society and to lead healthier lives, they needed to be able to determine when to bear children. She also wanted to prevent back-alley abortions, which were dangerous and usually illegal at that time.

Illegal Abortions

The secret world of illegal abortion was mostly frightening and expensive. . . . In the 1960s, abortionists often turned women away if they could not pay $1,000 or more in cash. Some male abortionists insisted on having sexual relations before the abortion.

Abortionists . . . often didn't use anesthesia because it took too long for women to recover, and they wanted women out of the office as quickly as possible.

In the 1950s, about a million illegal abortions a year were performed in the U.S., and over a thousand women died each year as a result.

Poor women and women of color ran the greatest risks with illegal abortions. In 1969, 75% of the women who died from abortions (most of them illegal) were women of color. Of all legal abortions in that year, 90% were performed on white private patients.

So murderers were seeking illegal abortions to kill their babies. Go figure. So let's just make these murders legal. Problem solved!
Only the lowest forms of humans were seeking illegal abortions. They were scum.

Question to Arlen.......are you "trolling"? If you are NOT.....please elaborate on your perception of those women who you consider
Scum (within the context of this discussion)....your AGE is also a consideration within this discussion and if you could relate those
two factors it would assist in understanding your above post.

I'm going to step into this with some opinion, although I doubt you will appreciate it. Up front, I will tell you I am not opposed to abortion. It's legal and it's the woman's legal right to decide whether she wants to have an abortion. I would support your right to an abortion to the max. But... I do consider it killing of a future human life. Period. You can have all the doctors and professionals explain how it's a fetus, and not human and not this or that, but I ask you... if you let it live... will it ever become anything else but a human baby? Will it become a rabbit? No. It will become a human. If you can't admit that, then you are lying to yourself and everyone else. But it is legal and I totally support your right to end it's life.

I am not trolling in the least. I was reared in an orderly, decent society. Only the underbelly of society sought abortions before it became "legal". "Underbelly" had nothing to do with wealth or the lack of it.
Scum were those with no morality. They valued social standing above all else. Poor women did not seek abortions but the parents of girls with reputations to protect. Some parents did not approve of the prospective mates that their daughters had chosen. Some daughters were wild (promiscuous).

My age? I was born in 1945 but I do not think that right and wrong has evolved in that short amount of time.

I will answer your question FIRST, since you are the one that responded first. (I am still hoping Arlen will respond, because the post felt incomplete in it's content.)Believe it or not,we have the SAME perspective on this issue and it was a HUGE issue for me then.
At a VERY early age,,I KNEW I did not want to be a mother and bear children. When I became sexually active, I was VERY fortunate
to have the pill as an option. It was my first choice of preventing pregnancy until I was 26. BECAUSE, I did not want to confront the issue of abortion EVER........I elected to be sterilized at 26 years of age. NEVER regretted my decision all of these years later.

please see my response above.

My response is still incomplete.

Another consideration were the daughters whose pregnancy would exclude them from social acceptance of family, friends, church, and local society.

All in all, abortion was extremely rare and was a tool used by those with resources.

Yes, we cross-posted against each other Arlen. It is my pov that your perception is LIMITED in it's intent. I believe you would be
surprised at the diversity of women who have elected to end an pregnancy and may I suggest to you that SURGICAL abortion is NOT
the only option available.(herbal solutions are another option.) We are within the same age group and speaking as a female,I believe
your take is somewhat antiquated.
