Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- An American soldier left his base in Afghanistan and went from house to house in two villages, killing 16 people in their homes, Afghan officials told CNN Sunday.
The dead include nine children and three women, plus five wounded, President Hamid Karzai said.
"The murdering of innocent people intentionally by an American soldier is an act of terror that is unforgivable," Karzai said.
The incident looks likely to inflame tensions still further between foreign troops and Afghan civilians, many of whom were enraged by the burning of Qurans by American troops last month.
Unforgivable. And I hope the GOP makes this a campaign issue. Can't blame Bush for this one Obama. Can you say "Abu Ghraib" Obama... try... real slowly. I hope the GOP doesn't take the high road. Let's get in the trenches with the liberals and play their game.
This shouldn't be a campaign issue. And I don't know what the motivation was here, but it will make it very tough for American soldiers and civvies in Afghanistan.
But consider this, will more Americans die due to the Koran burning or women and children dying at the hands of a psycho GI?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
As I do not condone this at all, this does nothing more than stir the bee hive up some more. To kill innocent women and children is unforgiveable. As for the individual that did this, I will reserve judgement on him until the true story comes out and is told. Karsai and his cronies are calling for him to be turned over to them. Not just no but Hell no.
I read that story and wondered myself what really happened. Did he just snap, or is there more to this story that's not being told that caused him to do this and there's some sort of justification. I can't think of what that would be that killing children is acceptable (women aren't always innocent), but I'd like to learn more before judging.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Interesting that the first thing you post about this horrible incident is how the GOP can use it to their advantage. No expression of concern for those killed, or for our troops who already face increased attacks because of the koran burnings...Nope for you it's all about you and your party and how you can blame Obama.
I have always felt we were doomed to fail in Afghanistan...no country has ever made a difference there, it's like Afghanistan is this vast hole that swallows any nation that tries to bring order to their chaos. We should simply have gone after bin laden from the very start and let Afghanistan just be Afghanistan. We need to STOP the nation building anywhere but here at home.
This is in no way a political issue, and if either party even tries to use it then they should be stood down and hard. This is about a soldier that something happened to cause him or her to trip and do something that should never happen. This is about a soldier whose life is forever changed for the not so good. I do know for a fact that troops with PTSD of varying degrees are continually sent back into combat against doctors orders, so again, I am more interested in what the investigation will show. Regardless killing of children is wrong no matter what.

A SOLDIER whose life is forever changed?!? What about the families? What about the surviving relatives that may have been lucky enough to live in another area and weren't subject to this massacre? Sixteen people are dead and you worry about the soldier....?
It never ceases to amaze me how instantly the apologists can come to the rescue....of the mass murderer....
Yes, by all means, lets "wait for the investigation."
As I have said LJ, killing of innocent women and children are unforgiveable. It should not have happened, and yes I want to know the why and whats of this. If you had read above I do not condone this at all. But I still want to kown what caused this. This individual will be dealt with, and he should be, as it is going to cause more harm and danger to our troops. As for the families, I already know what will happen there. It won't replace those that were lost, the hurt will not go away.
I am also not an apologists. It should not have happened, that simple.
