The Go Nowhere Generation

Playing video games is a lot cheaper than doing real activities. Hunting? Much more expensive and worse weather than the video game. Dirt bike racing? Much more dangerous and expensive than a game console, so on. I can see why it is tempting.

But like VL says, sometimes the video game inspires the kids to go out and do the real thing.

Forget the video games, I was more interested in the driver license stats. I admit I don't understand the 20s generation at all. Why less interest in getting a DL?

It gets worse.

Research shows teens in no hurry to get drivers licenses either. WTF?

I could see if you lived in a metro area with good public transit or even a 50cc scooter.
I guess times are changin. ??? I'm glad I didn't grow up in this generation. ughhh.

The frantic rush to get a license at 16 — once a staple in American adolescence — is disappearing as Internet access and stiffening driving rules have led teens to wait longer to beg for the keys.

"Kids can entertain themselves completely at home," Hart said. "People aren't going to the movies as much. People haven't been going to arcades. If I didn't have a computer or have a cellphone, I would definitely push myself more to get a license to go out and do things."

Do they even have arcades anymore?

True about drivers licenses. My nieces could care less about getting their DL's on time. I was in line at the DMV when I turned 15 1/2.

Thank God for the teens dont want to get their licesnse, it would have taken me 4 hours to get mine renewed yesterday. 2 hours with all the teens was enough for me.

I have to wonder about all the comments about video games. What example is set by some parents who are on forums all day long?

Thanks for backin me up Hoot, I can always count on you for support. And you're right- there's not a darned thing wrong with video games, in fact I have to question the sanity of people who still play board games in this day and age.

How could they possibly be fun!?

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
