Arianna Huffington: President's bin Laden ad "despicable"

Oops...

(CBS News) Arianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of the The Huffington Post, called the Obama campaign's decision to tout the assassination of Osama bin Laden in a campaign advertisement "despicable." The ad questions whether presidential candidate Mitt Romney would have ordered the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

"I don't think there should be an ad about that," Huffington said Monday on "CBS This Morning." "I think it's one thing to celebrate the fact that they did such a great job (with television specials). All that is perfectly legitimate. But to turn it into a campaign ad is one of the most despicable things you can do."

"So in a campaign, aren't you supposed to tout your accomplishments of what you've done," Gayle King asked.

Huffington replied, "That's not just what the ad does. What the ad does is questions. ... (The ad) quotes a snippet from Romney and uses that to imply that Romney would not has been as decisive. There's no way to know whether Romney would have been as decisive. To actually speculate that he wouldn't be is, to me, not the way to run a campaign, on either side."

SEALs slam Obama for using them as 'ammunition' in bid to take credit for bin Laden killing during election campaign

Serving and former US Navy SEALs have slammed President Barack Obama for taking the credit for killing Osama bin Laden and accused him of using Special Forces operators as ‘ammunition’ for his re-election campaign.

A serving SEAL Team member said: ‘Obama wasn’t in the field, at risk, carrying a gun. As president, at every turn he should be thanking the guys who put their lives on the line to do this. He does so in his official speeches because he speechwriters are smart.

‘But the more he tries to take the credit for it, the more the ground operators are saying, “Come on, man!” It really didn’t matter who was president. At the end of the day, they were going to go.’

Arianna can't be trusted. She used to be a Republican but switched because she liked the attention and money Left wing pundits get.

She is no doubt a 1% millionaire capitalist now after selling her HuffPo company to AOL. She better cash out her millions in Cap Gains before the Bush tax cuts expire. LOL

I agree the ad is tasteless. I think its fine to point out that he said he'd go after bin Laden, and that he lived up tto it. I also think its fine to point out bin Laden was not a priority to other politicians. I think its pretty grotesque to brag about killing anyone, and to use that politically.

And not to diminish what the SEAL's did, but it really looks like OBL had already retired. It was a important statement to take down this butcher, but I doubt it set back AQ all that much.

I agree Fred, Bin Laden appeared to be a couch potato when he was taken out.

As for the ad, not only is it dispicable to ride on the risk and sacrifices made by our soldiers, it's also not becoming of the Commander in Chief to pat himself on the back when he's been jetting around the country surrounded by security. He also doesn't give credit to the previous administration that got the ball rolling and made the mission possible.

This crap will backfire and Obama will be forced to run on the economy and healthcare. I can't wait to hear how they spin those two issues.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

One theory I heard about why Obama has kept warring on the terrorists are credible threats that AQ has been targeting his family. "Now it is personal"?

At least he didn't land on an aircraft carrier with a big "Mission Accomplished" sign behind him.

THAT mission was accomplished. A mission is not a war....and I doubt the sign was Bush's idea anyway. He also didn't use accomplishments made by the soldiers to pump himself up in a political ad.
