Mitt Romney courts Hispanics as an Oompa Loompa

So, what's with Mitt Romney's makeup on the Univision appearance last night (right)?

How he normally looks when he's talking to white people:

Look familiar?

I thought he had a tan. He hasn't been out on the campaign trail much, maybe he's been basking by the pool

He's got that "John Boehner 'glow'" doesn't he? Maybe it's the jalapenos in his pocket peeking up over the top of the handkerchief that are a bit much....

Fortunately, this kind of "tan" wipes off...so he doesn't offend the next group of high-rollers that he has to speak to.

I just can't stop laughing... This reminds me of the WKRP episode where Mr. Carlson was in a political debate and they put on too much make up.

But wait, THERE'S MORE!

The gossip amongst the reporter pool was that that Mr. Romney seemed to be far tanner than he was even two days ago, and Mittromneyinc.com’s southwestern bureau chief, on a hunch, visited all seven sunless-tanning outlets in the metropolitan Houston area to determine whether Mr. Romney had been treated, with the Bronze Edge Tanning facility on Westheimer Road finally confirming that they had applied a spray tan on the candidate.

The owner of the salon, Faylene Jenkins confirmed that Mr. Romney had scheduled a private spray tanning session, and that no one else was let in her salon, and no pictures allowed, before and after the procedure, by his staff. “I asked him what color he wanted to be, and he said, ‘Derek Jeter’. So that’s what I tried to do. His forehead started out a little too much Spike Lee, but I got the spray right by his nose.” She also reported that he paid $500, cash for his tan, before leaving. “A half-hour later, one of his aides comes back, and asks how to get it off, tomorrow. I just laughed. I tell him to buy an exfoliating mitt, and get some peroxide, and to scrub like hell.”

I think that was the point he was trying to make.

Well. I suspect you would have to ask Univision. Univision is a television network in the United States, headquartered in NYC, and the staff of the studio are union workers. Romney would not be allowed to apply his own makeup or have one of his own staff apply the makeup. If the makeup was applied was that dark, then it was intentional on the part of the makeup technician.

I'm not going to assume that the network has any particular artistic vision toward making guest look more "presentable" to a primary Hispanic audience, or that the makeup technician was trying to make Romney look "silly" but I guarantee that his makeup was not his doing.

I know when I'm in the makeup chair (yes, I've done film, stage and TV work) I rarely question the expertise of the makeup technician. I trust that the technician is working from some artistic design for the specific lighting, character type and camera's being used and the technician is trained enough in their profession.

I don't know how this happened (yes, it does look bad), but I suggest that Mitt did not have a hand in the final "product." If someone thinks they know more about the business and wants to tell me how Mitt could have had a hand in this, please do.

so the man can't even figure out how to say no to the makeup people?

It's not a matter of saying no... you evidently don't know anything about what goes on in a studio. You can say what you want to say, but the makeup technician is generally the expert and I don't think Mitt Romney has a education in makeup, lighting, camera types, angles, base shades and so on. Yes he can say no... and the makeup technician will probably tell him otherwise.

I asked for replies from someone who knows what goes on in the business... evidently you weren't that person.

I think this is a historical low in political pandering. I can't remember any presidential candidate every doing something like this.
