Ryan did better than expected on foreign affairs and seemed confident in his answers right up to the abortion issue where he and Romney differ on exceptions to an abortion ban for incest, rape and the mothers health. You could clearly tell he was uncomfortable with Romney's policy and made the distinction between belief and policy.

Will this debate change minds...probably not. But I think the Democrats got some of their mojo back and the Republicans can relax, Ryan did fine and didn't embarrass them. But sheesh, Ryan is pretty boring.

:like: ( Except for that little thing on the end about being boring. )

One of my high school friends posted this on FB, thought it was worth sharing:

I was explaining to my oldest son today that if the person we vote for as president loses, as citizens of the USA, we still need to show respect for the person in office. Patriotism seems to have fallen to the wayside. Think about it: wouldn't a physical attack on any US President be considered an attack on us all? We need to watch the tone we use with our children when discussing politics. We need to raise good citizens, not just democrats and republicans. We need to stop polarizing and focus more on respect. It's okay to discuss your views, but watch your words. Our country would be a kinder place if we did. Everybody wants to do what is best for our country and the great thing about freedom is that we can have a dialogue. That isn't a free pass to sound like a jerk.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

I agree. Clowns are usually more entertaining than intellectuals.

I thought the debate was overall ok, Biden was a bit over aggressive, interrupting and rude, and Ryan kept his cool and spoke clearly. The Moderator was pretty good too, and the table setting was better IMO. Nothing new really though, same ol talking points and promises, little detail. Next time serve beer instead of water and ol Joe would really open up!

My 9 year old was shocked when he heard me say I disagreed with the president. He said "He's the president, he tells the country what to do!".

That scared the heck out of me. We immediately sat down and had a good long talk about respect for the office of the president, but not being forced to agree with what the current holder of that office is doing with it. We also covered the fact that politicians work for us, not the other way around. I reinforced that the president and all other politicians have a duty to listen to the will of the people.

Then I told him that the dirty stinkin liberals were the cause of all evil in the world.

It is interesting to read the spin doctors and look at the quick polls. They are all over the place but in essence, it looks like it will have minimal impact on the race. Frank Luntz had a group of undecideds he was polling and none of them got off the fence after this debate.

Other than your last joke, i agree. The president works for us and is not the ruler of us. If the president or the VP act disrespectful, I will act disrespectful toward them in return. These debates drew a very clear picture of who these candidates really are. Obama looks down when talked to and Biden has a condescending smile/laugh/smirk and interupts every time Ryan makes a solid point.

I have zero respect for Biden or Obama at this point and I could care less what anyone else thinks.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

It is a good point on respect. Where does/should it start though? If the politicians don't show respect for each other in speeches or campaign mud slinging, doesn't this lead the voters to act the same?

'Where's Rodney when we need him... Biden won the debate hands down. He might have lost votes in the process though. I seem to remember a large swing in the polls after the Bush Gore debate because Gore acted similarly. That was a top o' the ticket debate though.

Of course it does. If our kids are watching politicians acting like imature children, that sends a clear message that being disrespectful at the highest office is perfectly acceptable. So if it's ok to smile and laugh when discussing serious issues like Libya and Iran, what does that say to our kids? These are suppose to be the most respected people in the country, yet Biden was the most disrespectful blowhard I've ever seen.
