Hispanic group demands amnesty for 11 million illegals

Say you are Latino and you apply for two jobs at the two restaurants in town, the only two, and your town is 100 miles from any other.

One employer (1) does not hire you and you can tell it is because you are Latino, does not say it directly, well he does sometimes.
The other employer (2) does not hire you, does not say why, and also fired your cousin when the employer found out he was illegal.

You find a job at the mechanics shop.

2 Months later your Mom and Uncle are up from Mexico for a visit. Which restaurant do you go to, 1 or 2?

People hate being hated.

Besides, I think most Hispanics would be R if the R party didn't hate brown people. Many are Catholic and except for the hatred of them for their skin color, I figure would gravitate towards a party that does not want to allow abortion and encourages other conservative family issues.

I think if the R's didn't push the anti-brown skin thing (many of them, not all, but certainly enough), Romney would be president and Latinos would be R and R's would push to let them in.

We don't need laws against bigots, the system already self corrected for them and now punishes them.

Enlighten me as to why. I re-read it and all seems pretty true or well supported. I hear the hatred all the time, here and in person, even in my own family. Many Latinos are Catholic and have strong family values. Romney could have won with Latino support. If I am missing something or not putting it together let me know, why aren't Latinos more R? I want to understand.

I know many many Republicans across all walks of life across the country, I don't know a single one who "hates" people of color. There are many who hate the fact that illegals are here illegally benefiting from our largeness. but that is a different matter.
That Republicans hate people of color is nothing but a lie spread by those who would benefit from keeping people of color away from the GOP. To be fair the GOP has been dominated by rich white guys, hopefully we are seeing a change in that direction. The GOP has not done a very good job of spreading their message to the Latino or black community. But to say Republicans hate brown people is simply a lie, or a gross generalization. Earlier this year I attended an event sponsored by the Colorado Hispanic Republicans when I reported about it here all I heard was disparaging remarks from the left such as

So quiet you could hear a taco drop.

Where to begin. There will always be some hate everywhere not just in a certain party or area.

When we were canvassing for Romney in the Latino communities, we focused on religious and family values.

Where I think we failed and what we need to do more of in the future is start sooner with boots on the ground. We made great strides but could have used more time.

Bigger failure in my opinion was not having a latino or woman in the v.p. position. If you want the Latino vote, R are going to have to do more to draw their support. Latinos are a huge voting block. In time we will see more coming to the R side when they understand that the party more closely reflects their views.

The pictures from the "Colorado Hispanic Republicans" gathering should have proved what the polls have already told you... "What if the Republicans gave a party for Hispanics, and nobody came?" Hence, my sarcasm/irony-filled quip.

You think that because the GOTP is supposed to be the "party of [so-called] 'family values", and Hispanics are 'family-values" people there should be something there to attract them... And that's after months of the right-wing candidates trying to see who could climb over the others to get to the Right of their fellow primary contenders in "building the fence higher", cutting off the benefits, stomping on the children who were brought here through no fault of their own, and telling them to "self-deport"... Wow...Sounds like a great invitation to "join the party" to me... Then if you go back through the posts on this forum, you see certain right-wingers consistently turning any mention of Hispanic/Latino voters into a snark about them being "illegal", and probably voting illegally... Hey, guys, did you happen to notice that among the LEGAL, REGISTERED LATINO VOTERS, you lost by a factor of 73-to-27? The hatred of Latinos on this board is palpable. And, Grady, I don't give a sh*t about your personal anecdotal "Gee, none of my Republican friends hate Latinos" reminiscences.

Then you think because YOUR concept of [so-called] 'family values' is the only one, that they should be attracted to it. And what is that? It's a list of all the things you're against: 1) contraception; 2) family planning; 3) women's health-care; 4) the right-to-choose; 5) equal-pay; 6) marriage equality for all; ad nauseum... Yeah...right... That's 'family values' that only a 1950's patriarchal evangelical could love.

I've got a flash for you: Liberals and Democrats have families too...And while there may be some overlap on one or two of those issues, by-and-large, what you're selling is not something most Hispanics (or Liberals) want to "buy"... And I PRAY that you keep operating under that delusion...It will only guarantee that you will continue to be irrelevant to the Latino vote...And you'll still be scratching your heads and wondering why....

You guys are like the Coyote... You put out a plate and a sign that says "Free [Latino] bird-seed", and you fill it with all the hatred, and "Self-deportation" garbage you can come up with, and wonder why the intended audience doesn't eat it????? Are you friggin' crazy?

This is why the GOP will continue to lose demographics in presidential elections.....they do not want to admit the deficiencies in their move towards making their party exclusive rather than inclusive. If this election hadn't shown them they need to make a change in their platform then probably nothing will. You're right LJ, the best thing that can happen for the election in 2016 is for conservatives to double down on ignoring the changing demographics of this country and continue to alienate the rising minority vote.

Disagree LJ. Try being Latino for awhile and working with them.

Over the years I think you will see changes in both parties as more Latinos come on board choosing the party that more closely reflect their views.

Regardless of how you feel about Bill Maher, his latest quip nails it:

One of the major takeaways from this election was watching, in real time, the Republican party learn that if they want to stay relevant, they simply must recognize that their base of white males just won't translate to victories anymore. And Bill Maher, on his own "Real Time," found this pretty amusing.

"White people vote for white people like it's going out of style," Maher said during the New Rules segment at the end of his first post-election episode. "And like most things white people do, it's going out of style."

In other words, Maher quipped that Republicans have "the same problem as the Beach Boys: Their fans are dying."

It is days like today reading this thread when you know you have done the right thing.
Grady is absolutely right. The GOP is concerned at the financial drain on our economy and our government, whether that be state or federal, that is burdened by people who are taking from a system without paying into the system.
I personally believe that their needs to be a streamlined path to LEGAL immigration into this country. For several reasons. 1. We know who is here and they are taxed alongside all of us. 2. It improves the quality of life for both sides of the border. I am concerned with just exactly who is coming across that border. If it is a Latino who simply wants a better life and an ability to support his or her family....welcome to America....though I am not sure that a better life is what they will get if things keep moving in the direction they are.
If it is a terrorist who is taking advantage of a border full of holes......not so welcome here.
I resent the implication that merely because of my political persuasion, I am broad brushed as a bigot.
Screw you drop out.
I have come to understand that you hold most anyone with contempt and disdain who is not persuaded to your exact pov.
This country is founded on the premise that people from all over the world are welcome to the land of opportunity. The USA. I hold no prejudice towards any person of any color. I am no better than anyone and I WILL NOT sit and allow anyone to paint me as something I am not.
