For instance, if you have contact with anyone mentally unstable, and you own firearms of any kind and keep them on your premises, they are to be locked in an NRA approved gun safe, and only YOU know the combo. Oh, and taking these said mental cases out shooting? Heeeeeeeell no.

Of course not, there are already laws in place to prevent many people from owning or possessing firearms. There are also already many laws in place restricting the type of weapons civilians can possess without having special licensees. The issue isn’t really gun violence, but violence itself. Look at how much violence is glorified everyday on TV, Movies, Song and yes Video Games. I would be remiss not to mention the state of mental health care across the country. Holmes, Loughner , Lanza, etc ,etc, all had known mental issues and should never had access to any sort of weapons. In each of these cases going back to Columbine and before the ball was dropped somewhere along the line. An assessment was missed, the threat was ignored or proper help was not available or sought out.

So who assesses who needs help? We are medicating our kids with drugs that we know alters their mental state, but supply no mental health support. Unless you have an excellent health insurance policy access to proper psychiatric care is cost prohibitive and there is no mechanism to force an unwilling mentally I'll person to accept any care. As far as violent video games go, those are available across the globe, where this seems to be a uniquely American problem. Violent people will seek out violent games, but I don't believe a violent game will male a peaceful person violent.

Obama, Biden will fix em all. And we do not get the news reports as much from foreign countries on violent crimes as much as you think we do.

I absolutely DO NOT CARE about the news reports from foreign countries on violent crimes... That must be an NRA-apologist thing.

As I said we have a serious mental health care problem. Drugging our kids doesn't seem to be working. Are you saying if a person is deemed to be a threat to themselves or others there is no mechanism to protect themselves or society? If there isn't there should be.

I agree video games along are not going to make a person violent. I forget the actual stats, but it was something like by the time a kid graduates from high school they will have witnessed tens of thousands of shootings on TV and in the movies, not to mention the plethora of vile disgusting song lyrics.
"who assesses who needs help?" it has to start with family, friends, neighbors, society, but it has to end up in the hands of competent mental health professionals.

I think what Martin's trying to say (correct me if I'm wrong Martin) is that a lot of European countries have some of the strictest gun laws in the world, and they still get plenty of murder and crime.

This really doesn't add to the conversation, Martin Ent. Just a slam at Obama/Biden? I look at stats for violent crimes in other first world countries and they are no where near as high as ours are per capita. We can hide our heads in the sand, or ask ourselves why our violence hovers at third world levels and try productive methods to fix that.
