What I'm seeing is throngs of thousands in the streets of Venezuela, and around the world, grieving at his loss... How many will mourn RMoney when he passes?... (Well, if you don't count the "extended family" of the Mormon church... and maybe the workers building his car-elevator...and the banks in the Caymans, Bermuda and Switzerland....) ?
I don't care about Chavez one way or another...But then your usual snarky remarks about someone you see as a "communist dictator"...(oooo! That's got to be enough to push you over the edge...), was not why the OP was posted. Seems to me the question was "What happens now? What will the relationship be between the U.S. and Venezuela now that he's gone?"
How many U.S.-installed dictators got installed by U.S. neo-cons that ended up VERY wealthy men?...The Shah of Iran, Pinochet, .....I could probably find others, but those are two I can think of off the top of my head... But, hey, I thought you guys were ALL FOR the 1% rich-folks at the top getting rich off of the 99%?... The Bush's and the Reagans have been enabling it for decades...
Maybe those grieving throngs wouldn't be so happy to know while they suffered through food shortages and rolling blackouts that their dear leader had cool billions in the bank?
Whne Chavez started, he was probably needed to give more of the country's oil wealth to the citizens instead of the entrenched rich elite, but it sure sounds like he was siphoning a big part of that oil wealth into his personal accounts.
Hopefully the next administration there uses the wealth instead on improving access to electricity and other infrastructure and backs away from socialist ideas of price controls which empty food markets.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Well this is a discussion forum so I am discussing.
Chavez and Venezuela were lucky to have this oil wealth to get a leg back up, but if you actually look at oil rich nations throughout the world, many of them find it as much a curse as a benefit. Look at Nigeria? It has made impressive gains, but still a lot of inequality and it seems to make un-diversified economies. Why worry about agriculture when you can make more money drilling holes? Why work in retail when you can make much more in the industry?

DORAL, Fla. (AP) -- Venezuelans in the U.S. cheered and expressed cautious optimism that new elections will bring change to their homeland after the death of President Hugo Chavez.
A jubilant celebration broke out in the Miami suburb of Doral late Tuesday after word spread of the death of the 58-year-old leftist. Many dressed in caps and T-shirts in Venezuela's colors of yellow, blue and red
But what the heck, why bother with facts in the middle of a nice Neo Con rant. I suppose there are other billionaire socialists grieving his passing, maybe George Soros?

Gee, according to MY sources, they are... You can't possibly imagine how little I care about an AP story about a bunch of FLORIDA ex-patriots and Chavez-haters demonstrating in Florida... (Which has NOTHING to do with my statement that there were demonstrations "around the world"... If you think you can construe that to mean that EVERY demonstration in EVERY location in the world was "pro-Chavez", then you are more dishonest than I thought...I don't see how that's possible.
Crowds of Venezuelans turn out to honor Chavez as coffin taken through streets
Tens of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets of the capital, Caracas, as the coffin carrying the body of late President Hugo Chavez processed through the city Wednesday.
Draped in Venezuela's blue, red and yellow flag and carried on the top of a car, the casket began its journey from the hospital to the Military Academy, a route of about two miles, shortly after 10 a.m. ET.
A Venezuelan government source estimated that some 8,000 people were gathered outside the Military Hospital where he died, waiting for Chavez's private guards to begin the procession.
Television pictures showed much larger crowds in the city's main streets.
Hmmmm... Pictures of demonstrations in Cuba, Bolivia, and other countries.....So, I guess I care about as much for your AP Source, as Fred cares about a peer-reviewed Cornell Study on the detrimental effects of that piece-of-crap XL Pipeline....
I wonder how many will mourn RMoney when he passes?... (Well, if you don't count the "extended family" of the Mormon church... and maybe the workers building his car-elevator...and the banks in the Caymans, Bermuda and Switzerland....) ?

You may now return to your snark-fest...
Here's some MORE thousands in the streets...
At a mass rally in Pyongyang on Thursday, Army Gen. Kang Pyo Yong told the crowd that North Korea is ready to fire long-range nuclear-armed missiles at Washington.
