Frogger, I am not optimistic. Still I think that reason has a chance if we do not allow ourselves to drug into the the mud of vitriol, bile, arrogance and pettiness.

that 50% feels exactly the same about those who agree with you......why are they wrong and you are right?
Sounds like a crazy science fiction movie doesn't it......only problem is that it is becoming common place.
Release the names of gun owners.
not necessary, they post pictures of themselves or their kids on Facebook
Invade peoples homes over Facebook posts. Restrict the kinds of guns and how many bullets we can posses. Don't let us eat bad foods or drink to much soda. No smoking...even in your own home. Saw a story today about an employer making their employees take blood tests and weigh in and prove that they are living a healthy lifestyle.....This is getting downright scary.
I agree......But your implication that this is somehow a fault of liberals or Democrats is amusing......it is what has been coming for years from both conservatives and liberals, and people accept it. So you hold guns inviolate.....women hold the right to choose inviolate, and both get intruded upon by those in power, but from different sides. This issue is not right/left, though you are trying your best to make it so......it is what our society has evolved into....it is what people apparently want.....and if the truth be told, some restrictions are necessary to maintain a polite society.....food inspections, limits on what you can say in public, i.e. slander, yelling FIRE in a crowded theater, car insurance, protections for consumers against fraud and harmful pharmaceuticals, safety regs in the workplace, and the list goes on and on.....this is what government can do that we as an individual cannot do........can you check your Rx for safety? Can you guarantee that the food you buy is safe? Do you know what your lender is doing? (OK, the gov't probably doesn't either). It's a matter of what we want and what we don't want....and bottom line is that the majority gets to decide at the ballot box.
When do the collective "we" rediscover that we are individually responsible for our own lives and successes and failures? Stop being the victim and start being responsible for yourself. It's my opinion (and I have been told on multiple occasions that I'm welcome to it) that each individual citizen is responsible for themselves wile also being entitled to the rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution. I take exception to those who want to alter our Constitution and the Bill of Rights to restrict the rights of our Citizens.
Somehow the majority of our citizens currently seem to prefer that the Gubment is in complete control of our lives and the collective "we" wants it that way. Let's face it, we can't be trusted to take care of ourselves, we need mega-hughe-gubment to tell each and every one of us what to do because none of use are smart enough to know what is best for ourselves.
I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.
"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." - Henry Ford
Corruptissima re publica plurimae leges; When the Republic is at its most corrupt the laws are most numerous. - Publius Cornelius Tacitus

"We" is this country....somehow I get the feeling that you don't like it very much, but want to re-create it into your ideal image. This is a Republic, "we" believe in the founding fathers wisdom that allows the voters to shape this country with their votes.....I'm sorry you are so disappointed in the way the USA turned out, not sure what your options are. There is no place else on earth I would rather be....nor any country that is better than what we have, right now, right here. Even through the Bush years, when I disagreed with most everything he did and accomplished....I never thought that the Government should just "go away". A majority of American elected the man......just as a majority elected Obama....and I trust in this nation to persevere through different administrations.
I am pretty sure what my options are and I will exercise those options to the best of my ability.
One of those patriotic options is to speak out about the direction this country is going.
for now....."our" Constitution gives me that right.
I believe that "we" want a balance of power and "we" want our Constitutional rights preserved and I am betting that your "50 %" will change as more and more begin to see that they didn't read the fine print and what they voted for is actually something different from what they thought.
I refuse to believe that more than half of America is lazy and wants a free ride of the government.
I believe that the voters have been misled and at times....downright lied to.
It's a matter of what we want and what we don't want....and bottom line is that the majority gets to decide at the ballot box.

The FOUNDERS via the Constitution and Bill of Right assured that a fickle majority could not usurp the rights of minorities.....many Americans actually do not get this.....just because a political movement wins an election the "victory" guarantees nothing.
The kid with the plastic gun caper: Most news stories become newsworthy because it sells soap in the media (sometimes termed "public interest") but it is intriguing to look at the motivations of those involved ....motivations to exploit the trivial issue. How did this picture find its way to the internet (millions are put up daily), who called police and welfare clerks ? Did a neighbor do this to compensate for some past slight, did a family member do this to get even for some dispute, did the lawyer or one of his staff desire publicity, who would gain from such a report......figger that out and the issue goes away quickly. Any facts to get to the motivating factors ??
Recall the baloon boy caper in the Springs ?? How gulible is our media and why do we give them protection to protect sources ??
I wonder what it would be like if every stable minded person in the country was mandatorily made to have and posses a "gun" < rifle shotgun pistol> i wonder if there would be a need for the police . Who would be stupid enough to even try to rob someone ..break into someone house ...the list goes on,, because it would be a well know fact that anyone in the area would be pointing a gun at the bad guy ! Hey ..its just one of them "Pipe dream" questions But as we all know Crime= job security for the police and law makers I`ll bet there would be a whole world of honest and trustworthy people out there if it were like that . And why is it everyone that gets taken out by a gun ...everyone is supposed to feel sorry for that person...why is it no one ever think "They must have screwed someone over to get taken out " Murder is illegal BUT why is it that a state appointed can "Murder" a prisoner and its legal ??? ,,,because the prisoner murdered someone ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA now THAT is real sane thinking isn`t it !!! Heck if anyone that can`t legally own a gun because of violent tendency ,,,, maybe they should apply for the state executioners job They could do all the killing they wanted to do LEGALLY HHAHAHAAHAHAHAAA
Most posts here are thought provoking but the issue of loss of our freedoms is important and I am starting a new thread...."The Romance of American Socialism". Trying to grasp why and how we are in the last decades of American greatness is also important.
BTW I have spent much time in Europe (have a grandson there) and see great things there based on Democratic Socialism......but no police state.......yet.
