Lillian Wissel Commissioner Candidate for all of Park County

02 Aug 2010 19:08 #1 by LILLIAN WISSEL
Hello Fellow Citizens of Park County:

I announced my candidacy February 1st of this year. At the same time I launched my website (www.electlillian wissel commissioner.com) and announced to everyone what I was all about.

I have been a Park County resident for over 32 years. I believe that we should give back to this county a little of what it has given us. It was and is with deep concern for this county that I am running for County Commissioner. We can no longer sit by and wait for things to change, WE MUST MAKE THEM CHANGE!

My issues were and still remain the same:

1. Stop the defict spending on the jail.

2. There must be accountability and transperancy in all forms of government.

3. Reduce fees.

4. Respect personal and private property rights.

5. Limit the size and scope of government.

6. There should be less restrictive rules and regulations not more restrictions.

7. We must have a common sense approach to government.

8. Help all business throughout the county survive and then thrive! My BPP Tax Credit Proposal is a solution.

One of my opponents, Samantha Bertin, has stated that experience doesn't count. She stated that her father, James Gardner, was a commissioner and didn't have prior experience and he did a good job. What she had failed to mention, is he helped form The Park County Water Preservation Coalition, was a member of the Park County Planning Commission, as well as working with other county water entities to fight the Aurora South Park Conjunctive Use Project from taking our ground water out of Park County. On the contrary, he was very familiar with the function of county government.

I too have been to the jail and have spoken with individuals from that department regarding the continued deficit spending. However, I didn't change my mind because those people told me that the jail couldn't be closed or that it could not be used to house other county offices instead of a jail. How can such a statement be made without any comparison studies completed to determine this "fact"?

Over the past year and a half we have seen what inexperience has done to this county. We elected two new commissioners who entered office iin 2009. It is clear they didn't know what they were doing. This allowed the "veteran" commissioner to take advantage of the situation. I believe that reduced services and fiscal mismanagement could have been avoided!

I am very proud of my work experience, knowledge, and leadership skills. My work experience is extensive in different areas of County Government, including the office of County Commissioner twice. I have owned and operated a successful business since 1999. I don't apologize for what I have learned, but only offer my experience to help better this county. I can and will hit the gound running January 2011. Any one can find problems. I offer solutions to the citizens so that the can review and determine for themselves if it is a solution right for them.

For those of you who have not voted or are going to the voting centers, I humbly ask for your vote on August 10th. Remember to vote for the Best, LILLIAN WISSEL!

Hi, Ms. Wissel! Is this a campaign statement? Or are you also entertaining questions posted here by the electorate?

Seems to me that we are going to need all of the experience we can find to dig ourselves out of this hole the current and past commissioners have sucked us into. I am going to vote experience.

I am a bit confused by your post. Are you saying that the best way out of the quagmire we are in because of past government to to bring in members of that past government because they have experience to fix it?

Lillian Wissell only served for a brief time and was in the minority on a good deal of votes. She has worked in many of the departments and knows how they work and where they can be improved. Mrs. Bertin has already shown that she can and will be manipulated in a different direction.
Her position on the jail is a perfect example of that. Mr. Dowaliby. Well, what can I say?

Mrs. Wissell,

Thank you for posting and answering here.

I have some related questions.

Would you be willing to push forward a vote and vote for an ordinance that made homeowner participation in the building department permit process voluntary. This could be coupled with a mandatory disclosure to future buyers and still come with simple planning board disclosure via a plot plan for taxation.

This is a private property issue in which Park County is even recognized (criticized) region wide. One should have a right to build a home on their own land, not for public use, without having to meet the expectations of individuals they do not know. Not everyone is hiring a contractor. Most of us are not ignorant, we understand how to build or if we do not know something we know how to hire a contractor just like we know how to hire a mechanic. Most of us could look at a stairway and know if it was repaired well, most of us cannot tell if our brakes were even fixed once we pull out of the mechanic, why such a disparity coupled with repeated searches of one's home? There is no local regulation of your mechanic, and I am not suggesting any, but the risks are far greater.

Also I would request the right to build a barn prior to a home on land smaller than 35 acres. This is done in many places with no issues. 10,20 or 30 acre landowners should not be regulated into 2nd class citizens.

And if these are not issues you would be willing to address, what do you mean by increasing personal property rights?

Thank you.

rather than sending you an email from several of us, a friend sent an email question to your website regarding conflict of interest. could you respond to it here.

1. how will you handle any conflicts with the county assessors office.

2. what you will do in regard to commissioners (tighe) conflict of interest with the sheriff's department when he does not recuse himself when it comes to a vote regarding the sheriff's dept.

3. what you will do in regard to the county attorney's conflict of interest and ethics violation by advising the bocc when his wife is a parkco dept. head.

i think that is a reasonable facsimile of what was sent to you.

thank you.
