Jeffco BOE Retreat, Dec 14th. Edited video regarding a motion to spend $7 million out of reserves:
Published on Jan 23, 2014
Mr. Newkirk introduces a surprise agenda item to spend $7-million which was slated to rebuild district reserve funds, still dangerously low after the recession. No taxpayer input was solicited for this proposed re-allocation.
Jeffco BOE Retreat, Dec 14th. The full unedited video regarding hiring a board attorney:
Community members were not pleased when they discovered that the response to each of their individual letters was responded to with a form letter that didn't answer their questions about the board attorney hire.
They've posted the exact letter from John Newkirk below that message, date of post on Facebook is Jan 23.

It's getting more contentious in Jeffco. I see each side's point of view, but the fact of the matter is that this board is fracturing, it's not working together and finding compromise, and it's going to harm our schools. I am supremely disappointed in this outcome.

And you thought that the teabagger/extremists would work together instead of concentrating on furthering their ideologies and agendas? That was never going to happen... It's like the crowd that wants to "shut-down government"--and DID. They aren't interested in furthering education...All they want to do is see who can be the most extreme, and cut the budget the most.

Shouldn't the Superintendent stay if she really cares about the kids and teachers? She is pretty much giving the board Carte Blanche to do what they will.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
It is obvious that Cindy and the Board are not able to work together, so her leaving was a foregone conclusion. The crazy thing is that the Board seems to think that they can manage the schools themselves - they are not hiring a new superintendent but will instead run things themselves for a while. That is clearly a recipe for disaster. These people don't know how to run a board meeting without creating a firestorm. Imagine what they are going to do when they try to manage a huge educational enterprise.
High Timber Times article. Daniel Laverty has been attending the school board meetings personally for quite some time so he's got good historical perspective. Stevenson tenure ends early on acrimonious note ‘I am not respected by this board,’ superintendent says
