I didn't get where the author of the article seems to hate the U.S. Rather, I got that the people the author interviewed do. Whether or not that is the case doesn't really matter to me in the overall scheme of this discussion. I've detailed where I was trying to go with this. I won't belabor the issue any further regarding whether or not DU is, in fact, causing the problems detailed in the article.

So, you're an old Tar, too, eh?

That's what I thought an old Tar is. I didn't retire from the Navy, but am a Vietnam Era Navy vet. Our son served on the fast attack submarine Key West, too. Kinda proud of the little squirt!

Even Fox News is reporting on this so it must have some truth to it, right?

Here ya go: Tar, Jack Tar

Tar, a slang term for a Sailor, has been in use since at least 1676. The term "Jack tar" was used by the 1780s. Early Sailors wore overalls and broad-brimmed hats made of tar-impregnated fabric called tarpaulin cloth. The hats, and the Sailors who wore them, were called tarpaulins, which may have been shortened to tars.

TAR, training active reservists. It is a weird subset of sailors. They are full time but spend a lot of time at reserve centers. I was in for 12 years before I even heard of them.

Good for your son. I wanted subs but admitted to too much MJ use to qualify. The boat Navy was very picky.

Interesting:

It goes without saying that American bombing, with its inevitable “collateral damage,” will create a growing class of Muslims who have concrete reason to want to harm Americans.) In an recent interview, Francis Fukuyama elaborates on this view. 9/11 didn’t “change everything” as many claimed, or shouldn’t have; it was essentially a lucky shot.

Z, your link is rather long and I do not care to invest the time to try and read and digest it all.

Based on the part you quoted It seems to me that your position is that the twin towers was a "one off", and that Afghanistan and Iran were over reactions and mistakes which gives a rational for muslim fanatics to attack us. Is that what you think?

I am enjoying our conversation because you do not post as an angry, condescending or arrogant liberal. I hope I am not coming across as an angry, condescending or arrogant libertarian. Archer accused me of being condescending, I guess we all have room to improve. ( I think she is delusional,( but I have been wrong before)

At any rate I am drinking beer and hope this is not total ramble and babble.

What are we taking about?
