I guess this is the 'Change' the Dems voted for. :bash The Dems could only win by one vote 210-209 to adjourn 2 weeks early so they can campaign, without voting on extending Bushes tax cuts. 39 Dems even voted to stay and vote on it and 16 never had the guts to vote at all. So in essence as it stands, all our taxes are set to go up January first. They also never even passed a budget this year. This is the most fiscally irresponsible and inept congress we have had in decades.
Boehner: “A Vote to Adjourn is a Vote to Raise Taxes”
Democratic Leaders’ intent to adjourn for the fall without allowing an up-or-down vote to stop all of the tax increases set to take effect on January 1. Boehner issued the following statement:
“A vote to adjourn this Congress without an up-or-down vote to stop all the tax hikes is a vote to raise taxes and destroy more jobs. American families and small businesses deserve better. This Congress has a chance to help end uncertainty for families and small businesses by stopping all the tax hikes set to take effect on January 1. If Democratic Leaders leave town without stopping all of the tax hikes, they are turning their backs on the American people.
House Democrats on Wednesday barely won a 210-209 vote to adjourn the House without extending the Bush tax cuts.
Thirty-nine House Democrats voted against adjournment
after Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) urged opposition to the motion in a floor speech that said it would be irresponsible for Congress to leave without providing certainty on the tax issue. Dozens of Democrats in tough races voted against adjourning.
"Vote no on this adjournment resolution. Give Congress a chance to vote on extending tax rates," Boehner said.
Perhaps they knew there was no point in attempting to accomplish anything since the obstructionist GOP wasn't going to let anything pass anyway?
More Party Of No: Sen. Jim DeMint Says He’ll Block All Legislation He Doesn’t Clear
South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint says he’ll put a hold on all legislation not cleared by his office.
Any senator can place a hold to block legislation – and overcoming that would require the Senate to take time-consuming steps to invoke cloture, which would require 60 votes.
With the Senate slated to adjourn Thursday until after the elections, DeMint’s stance could mean trouble for Democrats if the two parties don’t quickly agree on a stopgap spending measure to keep the government operating past Sept. 30. And that could mean the demise of a slew of other stalled and largely non-controversial bills that both parties are looking to clear before Election Day.
America is still waiting to hear what Republicans stand for.
Scruffy wrote: Wow. Republicans have blocked floor votes on the Bush Tax Cuts, yet you claim this is the Democrats fault?
Not true. The Republicans and many Democrats had more than enough votes to pass ALL the tax cuts and wanted to vote on it many times, but the Democrats won't allow that vote to go to the floor. SO they throw a tantrum and then go home. Did you not read the story? ALL the Republicans and 39 Dems wanted to stay and vote on it. But Pelosi has the control and took her majoiry of 1 and said that they would not give Americans the tax cut extension in a recession and that she needed to go and campaigning instead.
In this instance, since it is politically expedient for them to vote on it, NOW the Republicans want to allow it on the floor. Previously, they have blocked every attempt to vote on it.
This is nothing but political grandstanding, and you know it. The Republicans just want to be able to point their finger and say "See? They didn't do sh**!"

So the GOP blocks every single vote that the Dems want to pass prior to the election, but THIS one, is the Dem's fault?

Dang, I love right-wing spin... I could sit and watch it for hours.
....Just sayin'....
You guys isn't real edumacated is ya? The Republicans and many Dems offered a proposal that had enough votes to pass where they would have extended tax cuts for ALL Americans in a recession but Pelosi wouldn't let it come to the floor for a vote. She would only allow her porposal to come up for a vote. That is not what America wanted. The Republicans and quite a few Dems were listening to Americans and trying to give us what we want. The pelosi Dems all were listening to Obama and his promise, not what Americans really wanted and needed and they blocked the vote from coming to the floor. This vote was totally obama and his promise vs. the will and desire of Americans. And pelosi and 210 Dems voted for Obama over Americans.

You can't spin this one. The Dems have blocked the vote that the majority of Americans and the majority of congress wants. You need to read up. The R's and 47 D's now want a vote on all taxes and Pelosi won't allow it. That is more than enough to pass.
Forty-seven House Democrats — enough to give Republicans a victory on taxes if the issue came to a vote — are breaking ranks with President Barack Obama by calling on party leaders to continue Bush-era tax cuts on investment income.
The lawmakers, led by Rep. John Adler, D-N.J., have sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying they strongly support extending the current tax rates on capital gains and dividends.
"Raising taxes on capital gains and dividends could discourage individuals and businesses from saving and investing," said the letter, dated Friday and released Tuesday. "We urge you to maintain the current tax rate for both dividend and long-term capital gains taxes."
Read this! It is the Dems fighting the Dems that have stopped all of this.
Democratic leaders in Congress had been pushing for a vote to extend middle-class tax cuts before lawmakers go home to campaign for the Nov. 2 congressional election. But action on the tax cuts was postponed until after the election when Democrats could not agree on how to proceed.
