Joe wrote: I don't care if it costs $2M or $200M per day, is a presidential trip to India a big priority right now? I talk to those people free everytime i pick up a phone for customer service. In past administrations we were not running 1.3 Trillion deficits and printing money faster than the Dems are getting voted out. Can't Hillary fly over to India for a chit chat?
It's a big deal when you are selling 737's for Boeing, military jet engines, and nuclear to Indian. Let's call Obama the Nuclear Peddler in Chief. Hey, the trip is going to save or create 53,000 jobs in the US.
Republican Anger Over Cost of Obama’s Trip to India Will Not Be Stopped by Facts
Here's where the GOP — and the Fox News pundits — went with it. Glenn Beck wondered if maybe we should have been worried about Obama's Hindu connection, expressing distaste over "$2 billion for ten days so [Obama] can go see the festival of lights." Sean Hannity pointed out that that sure was a lot of money to visit "one of the biggest mosques in Indonesia." Michele Bachmann told Anderson Cooper, "I think it's not a good signal to send to the American people, when the American people are, quite frankly, struggling right now with high job losses." When Cooper pressed her on the inaccuracy of the figures she was quoting, Bachmann responded, "Well these are the numbers that have been coming out in the press." Ah, yes, that historically trusting bond between the GOP and "the press."
I agree it was over the top by Fox and conservative commentators. I do believe the other news outlets should have taken to task the White House on the costs. But most are reporting on the controversy.
You and I did better research than the national news agencies. The trail was interesting. I first saw the story at Marketwatch, I reviewed the reference, and followed it back to Press Trust of India - basically the AP of India.
I have been monitoring the Press Trust of India website over the past several days. I am starting to believe that much of their news about Obama's visit was US news bait propaganda that reflects their dislike of him or perhaps the US. I know you will probably blow a cork - but some of the stories about Obama have been politically outrageous. So outrageous I wouldn't dare post them on 285bound.
What is really disturbing is what Obama has provided India today. The ability to create more nuclear use.
