Elk Creek Fire demonstrating high level of competence

Thanks for the info, jf1acai. That answers a couple questions I had. I guess I can "assume" answers to some of the other questions, given the disaster declaration, but I'd certainly like to see some concrete, verifiable info on it.

I agree, and hope the AAR will give us some good answers. It has been like pulling hen's teeth to get valid information.

jf1acai wrote: If anyone can clarify what the OP of this thread - http://www.pinecam.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=148667 - on Pinecam is attempting to say, I would much appreciate it.

It appears to me that he is claiming that ECFD and CSFS were using the State UHF DTRS radios during the Lower North Fork Fire.

When he refers to the 'old vhf radios' I am not sure if he is referring to the old 6 Meter VHF radios or the current 2 Meter VHF radios.

Since no one except Law Enforcement in the area affected by this incident was using the State UHF DTRS, I cannot understand why he continually references it.

I would ask him directly, but I am not allowed to post there.

Thank You

I tried, he just doesn't get it.....

I'm afraid so, thanks for your efforts.

I think we have to keep working at this, so that the facts will come out, and we can learn from them, and improve for next time.

Thank you jf. The whole point being to improve for next time. As Elk Creek f.d. has said in the past, Conifer/Black Mountain is a real concern. Everyone needs to be alert and ready.

And as LopingAlong has said in another thread, Staunton Park when it opens presents a danger. Even if they don't have campgrounds initially. Elk Creek and Platte Canyon f.d. need to be prepared, especially the way Kings Valley, Conifer Mtn and Black Mtn homes are tiered up the mountain.

Thank you Becky for the link.

Thank you Andy Hoover!! Someone speaking for those who died. Let the truth be told.

If I were the f.d. I would STFU.

The Elk Creek Fire Dept will be presenting at the Conifer Area Council Town Hall Meeting this coming Wednesday at 6:30-8:30pm, West Jefferson Middle School . They stated this morning at the Conifer Area Chamber of Commerce Monthly Breakfast Meeting that their focus of this public meeting is not to go over the sequence of events/decisions at the meeting (I would guess because the official investigations are still on-going) but rather, to discuss ways to improve our fire safety and to work together as a community. If you have ideas/suggestions to make, please attend, there will be a question/answer period at the end of the meeting.

I've been given permission to videotape the meeting so if you can't make it that night, you'll still be able to find out what was presented and can contact the fire department afterwards personally.

If fire mitigation is questioned as far as the people affected by the LNF fire... Andy is NOT the person to engage. He spent many years and $$ mitigating around his house. Removing at least every other tree to get close to or evne over 15' centers, removing limbs/branches up to 10' ++ off the ground. My son was one of those who worked for Andy for two summers to help get this done. There was a large amount of mitigation done.

Also, not to mention the foam suppression system he had installed. Plus, Andy was active in calling in fires/smoke along the Rampart Range, you can see all the way to Pikes, Buffalo Peaks and Evans form what was his rear deck. He had as good a view as the fire lookout on Devils Head had.

I have heard a few comments from those involved in the FD/PD that mitigation was an issue.... I think Jackie Kellly, the Jeffco Sheriff PIO, said something about that during the first week post event. They ought to tread lightly with those charges, for the most part they are unfounded and in some cases.... a direct insult to some of those who have suffered the most.
