If you want to support the troops, JUST DO IT.
If you dont know how to get started, I have some ideas.
Quit typing and do something. Nobody will pat you on the back.

I'm waiting for my shipment of box's to arrive..Also looking for volenteers to help load, address and send them...Thinking about renting office space in Evergreen. This is going to be big and all expenses can be written off

Shipment of boxes? You can get priority boxes at the Post office, for free. What are you loading into them? Gosh I would love to help but going to Evergreen is not convenient.

I get a box @ the post office, get some stuff, pack the box with good stuff, and mail it. I didnt know I needed office space, the kitchen table works for me. I did not know I could write it off, a $20.00 expense would probably reduce my taxes by about, uh .02 cents

Becky wrote: Freebird....you are a sweet heart but I am going to have to disagree with some of your statements above.

The statement that originated this thread was an add placed with the Conifer Chamber of Commerce. It clearly stated that Pinecam was the home of TSAC. In addition to that add.....***** **** referred to Pinecam's own TSAC while promoting the Rhubarb Festival tomorrow. The link is provided in one of these 5 pages.
It is also my understanding that ***** **** did everything she could to prevent a partnership with 285bound and TSAC.
Seems she is right at the heart of this controversy
I recall the situation with TSAC coming here very well. It was a very uncomfortable time for many here.
I don't doubt that there are many good folks associated with TSAC. As the parent of an active duty military son....I truly appreciate the good work TSAC does.
Unfortunately, your good work is tainted for many here by your very close affiliation to Pinecam.
I can understand how CG would feel betrayed given the facts of what was told to 285bound at the time of a partnership.
I want to be absolutely clear here on this next statement.

As I shared with Becky at a Conifer VFW breakfast last year, it doesn't matter to me and others whether a person supports TSAC or some other organization for sending much-appreciated comfort items, cards, and well wishes to our troops. I know many send things on their own and that is great. Our community takes care of their own and I am amazed at their generosity. I was proud of the shipment Becky organized late last year and thankful for the donations of our members to that shipment.

I am unaware of ANY donations by TSAC to that shipment. With the possible exception of mountaindollar and I am not real clear on that one. I do recall having a very difficult time securing donations from 285bound members because of the blurred line between that shipment and TSAC's involvement. I recall spending a great deal of my own money as well as a very generous donation from towermonkey to pull it off. I do know that TSAC took full credit for theirs as well as our shipment as they arrived on the same day.
I belong to several organizations that support the troops and will concentrate my efforts there where there is less BS to sift through.

I have to say that as uncomfortable as the dialogs are to have here.....I find them very enlightening when looking into the character and integrity of those involved.
Troops support is near and dear to me and I am appalled that some use it as a tool to gain leverage for their own selfish egos...(***** ****)
Freebird. You and your husband are very good people but I suspect there are some things going on behind the scenes that you may be unaware of.
If TSAC is a separate entity from Pinecam....Perhaps the add for the Chamber should be pulled and rewritten to reflect a more truthful representation and a request made of ***** to amend her post to correctly reflect the relationship TSAC has with Pinecam.

As an officer for TSAC......did you or other officers approve the usage of your non profit name in a print add for Pinecam in the Conifer Chamber of Commerce Directory?

In the interest of fairness to TSAC, I don't think they were even aware that we sent a shipment as well. I had had my own issues with TSAC (far in the past and better forgotten) and was excited that 285Bound was going to do something along the same lines. I will support the troops using other venues because of my past problems with TSAC but they are a good hearted organization with the right goal - to help out the troops. I also can understand SC's point about not wanting to compete with TSAC, but it would be great if there were another local organization that people like me could participate in.

Oh no Hoot..I'm not sending them Priority mail, thats too expensive and I was looking for office space for something else anyway. If I could get some volenteers to pack up some boxes with donated goods in the corner of the office and then bring them by the post office on their way home I could write off all the office expenses, our computers, tv, gas, food, drink, our salaries and all of our administrative costs...Everything. You could write off the gas, the price of postage and the cost of your time- i'm gonna say $25/hour? I'll get back to you when I get everything set up, thanks

TSAC was well aware of 285bound's efforts to adopt the unit and send out packages. There was a good deal of discussion before the effort even began.
I personally believe tha all of this could have been avoided by a partnership with the Ladies Auxillary. Jmo. 285bound would have been an outstanding resource for such a wonderful organization. Hopefully someone will feel that it is an important step to take and will get it done.

akilina wrote: Which troops does TSAC send packages?

akilina, I did not forget your question just busy. This is the best I could do for now.

"We are sending to two Marine units in Afghanistan right now.
NavyCPO is fetching us information on another particularly needy
unit there. He requested we no longer send to his son."

Also non audited but probably pretty close, 24 units since '04, seven tons.

I am not sure but if you want to know the specific units we are current shipping to, I think that would be available at our booth at Baily days.

I want to thank all the generous folks whose donations have made it possible.
