Park County Sheriff video NO FIRES OR SHOOTING

Last May, the first fire on the Jefferson side of Kenosha was started by shooters about 1/4 past the cattle guard on the Lost Park Road. No doubt about it, a .223 round caused a fire on a Sunday morning.

This year, an experienced rifleman started a fire along CR 31 (runs between CR 77 and Hwy 24 by Puma City) with a .308.

The Springer Gulch Fire was definately started by "recreational shooting". Stories about propane tanks and explosive targets have not been corroborated.

I also shoot a lot. Daytime, nighttime, rifles, pistols , revolvers, large caliber and small. If you have never created a spark from a ricochet, then I don't care what esperience level you claim, you haven't been there-done that.

On a Colorado gun forum a local Bailey resident related his story regarding starting a fire when he shot into a stump.

To the tin-hat crowd-this is not part of a vast liberal conspiracy to take your guns, either.

Your post still smacks of urban myth. But still, after this ban I am going to satisfy my mind by a little experimentation. I am not talking about arson. I am thinking of trying a few experiments in a controlled environment to see if there could be even a grain of truth to what I believe is nonsense.

Twenty.

That’s the number of wildfires officials believe recreational shooters have caused so far this summer in Utah. One of those wildfires — the Dump fire 40 miles south of Salt Lake City — prompted 2,300 evacuation notices and has led to a 6,023-acre blaze.

Officials believe a lot of things. But that has nothing to do with reality.

A couple of years ago there was a small 2 acre fire started in the Hi Meadow burn area by a shooter. Ricochet off a rock.

No matter what you believe a ban is a ban so don't do it.

Great Point

An observation, the grumpy / unhappy / Park County sucks group seem to have one thing in common. The sit around all day listening to scanners to hear what is going on with the lives of others and to police the police. I suspect these people would be much happier if they shut off their scanners and had a life.

Thanks Mr. Moronwood. I have a life and part of it is contributing to this community. I listen to the scanner for smokes and post if I have time, as first contribution is to watch for smokes and report to the fire dept. The fact that I hear other info on the scanner is enlightening.

Thanks to all the deputies who have had to be all over this county for violations.

No thanks to Sheriff Wegener who tells 9news that there is a fine and we mean it and then has the deputies issue warnings. And we wonder why we have a problem with so many violations in this county.

Thank you mtntrekker for your contribution. Scanner monitoring is important, I agree.

However, taking the liberty to immediately bash a group of people (PCSD) or individuals in that department on a thread meant purely as a public service is unnecessary. It detracts from the message and spins the topic away from the intentions of the original poster. Not to mention the contentious banter that may follow. As mentioned previously, there are other areas on this forum to discuss the shortcomings of departments or individuals. I should say the same to others that piled on after you. As for me, I'm done piling.

Again, thanks for your smoke watch and scanner duties.

Ohhh? The thread was meant purely as a public service? Since when have people not made comment. New rule you invented? Looks like you followed it really well. Congrats.

Have to agree. It would save the deputies a lot of driving all over the county to deal with stuff that people should know and follow, giving the deputies more time to focus on d.u.i.'s etc.
