Per the Denver Post this morning, looks like multiple felonies are being handed out to the perps'. Think if this happened in Park Country they would come down so hard on the offending officers?

Boulder ex-officer accused of killing trophy elk found guilty on all counts
by Thomas Hendrick
June 3, 2014

BOULDER, Colo. — A Boulder jury has found the former police officer accused of shooting and killing a trophy elk guilty on all nine counts.

Carter was charged with one count of attempting to influence a public official, one count of forgery and two counts of tampering with physical evidence — all felonies.

His sentencing will take place in August. He could get up to six years in prison.

Per GOT, I present the Elkslayer! Funny part about this case? The judge wouldn't permit any evidence against the Elk to be used. Like that the animal had trapped a postman on a porch weeks earlier. Very Boulder thing to do.

This could be a hit tv series like "Who shot JR" ... "Who shot the Elk in Loony Boulder?" :)

The prosecution had asked for one year, instead of the six, and he got none. Do you think it's a fair sentencing?

Ex-officer convicted of killing Mapleton elk dodges prison time, gets probation

BOULDER, Colo. — Sam Carter, the former Boulder police officer who was convicted of killing an elk, was sentenced Friday by a Boulder County judge to four years of probation, community service and fined, avoiding the one year of prison time that prosecutors sought.

Carter, 37, was found guilty on June 3 of nine charges related to shooting and killing a trophy elk in the Mapleton Hill neighborhood of Boulder. He will also have to pay $10,200 in fees because of the wildlife convictions.

I think it is fair. If this had happened in Bailey, it probably wouldn't have even made the news.

The officer should have been given a prison sentence. He abused a public trust. Officers should face greater punishment than a citizen, not less punishment. Also, $10,000 of fines for poaching is very light compared to fines imposed upon citizens for similar crimes.

I also hope that he has to pay his own attorney fees. I sure hope that the police union or the public did not have to pay for his defense.
