You’re Already Counted In

Today's Scripture

Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The LORD has not chosen these.” 1 Samuel 16:10, NIV

When the prophet Samuel came to Jesse’s house to pick out one of his sons as the next king of Israel, Jesse lined up seven of his sons and said, “All right, Samuel, take your pick.” He hadn’t bothered to bring his youngest son, David, in from the shepherds’ fields. He had already ruled David out, thinking, “He’s too small, too young, not talented. He’s not king material.” This would have been a problem if people have the final say. But when people leave you out, it may be hurtful but it doesn’t stop your purpose. People may have counted you out, but don’t worry. God has already counted you in. He overrides what people say. He overrides the injustice. Samuel said, “Jesse, I don’t see the king in these seven sons. Do you have any other sons?” Like with David, you’re going to be called into the house and be anointed. God hasn’t forgotten about you. Stay in peace, keep doing the right thing, and what He promised you will come to you. God has the final say.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that no matter what others may be saying about my life, You have the final say. Thank You that I can stay in peace, keep doing what’s right, and choose to not dwell on negative reports. I believe that all that You promised is going to come to me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Faith Journey

Today's Scripture

The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation.” Genesis 12:1–2, NIV

The way God leads us always requires faith. For Abram to reach his destiny meant he had to leave his comfort zone of family, friends, and blessing and take steps of faith into the unknown. Our God is a moving God. He’s taking you on a journey. The place of blessing is going to move. It may not always be physical as it was for Abram; sometimes it’s your thinking. You have to leave limited mindsets. You have to quit telling yourself you’re not qualified and take that new position at work, teach that class, or volunteer at the church. Quit thinking about what didn’t work out, who did you wrong, the relationship that didn’t make it. God is in control. He knows when it’s time for you to move forward. That’s why He’s commanded another place for you to be blessed.

Now be sensitive to what He’s saying and quick to obey. You have to leave where God was and go to where God is. It is a place strategically orchestrated to get you prepared for the fullness of your destiny.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for calling me to follow You and Your direction in my life. Thank You that You are a moving God and that to journey with You always means taking steps of faith into the unknown. I look forward to the new places of blessing that You have for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Your Tree Is Already Planted

Today's Scripture

Zacchaeus tried to get a look at Jesus, but he was too short to see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree beside the road, for Jesus was going to pass that way. Luke 19:3–4, NLT

Sycamore trees can live for hundreds of years. Here’s how strategic God is. Long before Zacchaeus was born, God said, “I have to plant a tree here, because in a few hundred years, a crooked tax collector who needs My mercy will come here. This tree is going to be necessary for him to meet My Son who will bring him into his purpose.” That tree didn’t happen overnight. Generations back, God was thinking about Zacchaeus. It was from that vantage point that salvation came to Zacchaeus that very day.

There are blessings you’re going to come into that God has been working on for generations. You don’t have to worry about the right doors opening, the right people showing up, or how you’ll overcome that heartache. God has already planted your tree. He’s already lined up what you need for your purpose and been working on what looks impossible to you. You’re going to come into something that you couldn’t make happen. It’s the hand of God moving you into your purpose. Rest in faith, knowing that God has it all lined up.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the trees You’ve planted for me long ago and the blessings You’ve already lined up. Thank You for the people, the favor, and the promotion You’ve ordained to come across my path. I believe that You are directing my steps and orchestrating everything around me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Messy Places

Today's Scripture

“Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You.” Jeremiah 32:17, NKJV

Do you ever have thoughts that the God who is so precise, so detailed, that He causes the earth to rotate down to the millisecond and has stars, planets, and galaxies fit perfectly in place and stay in order is somehow going to falter in His plan for your life? Do you think He would ever let something happen that wasn’t designed, a bad break or a messy situation, keep you from your destiny? If He made a mistake with you, you would be the first one.

You’re going to go through some messy places, things you don’t understand, weaknesses that you haven’t overcome, but it’s all a part of the process. It may be uncomfortable, you may have brought the trouble on yourself, but it’s not a surprise to God. When He designed your plan, He took it into account. Despite the wrong choices, despite the dysfunction, despite the delays, what makes you think God’s not going to bring to pass what He promised you? You’re under construction. That’s part of the process. It doesn’t mean God’s not going to finish what He started.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are my creator, architect, and builder and that You are working through a specific plan for my life. Thank You that I’m under construction even in the messy places. I’m growing, I’m coming up higher, and I know that You’re going to finish what You started. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Be Prepared

Today's Scripture

Be prepared in season and out of season. 2 Timothy 4:2, NIV

When Paul told Timothy to “be prepared in season and out of season,” he was talking about ministering, but the principle is true when you’re waiting for God to do something. Stay prepared in your mind in season, when things are going your way, and out of season, when the medical report is not good, when your business slows down. Don’t live discouraged and put God in a box that limits how He does it. Don’t tell Him how or when to do it. No, get ready for God to show up out of season. God knows how to bring what you need.

The odds may be against you, and you don’t see any sign of things changing. God is asking you what He asked Moses in Numbers 11: “Is there any limit to My power? Do you think the conditions can hold Me back? Do you think the seasons can stop Me from doing what I want to do?” Take the limits off God. Start expecting, start believing. Don’t be surprised when God shows up when you don’t see Him coming.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have never lost any of Your power, and You control the seasons and bring Your blessings to me in Your own way and Your own timing. When it looks too big for me, I know that with You all things are possible. I believe that You are not limited by any unfavorable conditions that I face. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Coming One

Today's Scripture

“For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.” Hebrews 10:37, NLT

It’s significant that right after the writer of Hebrews talked about having patient endurance when it comes to the promises of God, he refers to God as the Coming One. This is saying that while you’re waiting, while thoughts of doubt are trying to talk you out of it, you need to have this image of God as the Coming One. He is not the delayed one, not the forgot-about-you one, not the you-don’t-deserve-it one, not the it’s-too-late one. Have a new perspective. The God we serve is coming with healing, coming with favor, coming with salvation for your children, coming with that dream He put in your heart, coming with freedom for your loved one, coming with abundance for your family. Thoughts will tell you, “It’s never going to happen.” No, the Coming One is already on the way with whatever you need. When you know this, it’s easy to wait with expectancy. It’s easy to believe when you don’t see a sign. You know God as not just your Savior, not just as your Creator, but you know Him as the Coming One.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your unlimited favor and supply of everything I need in this life. Thank You for Your strength in difficult times and the expectancy that at any moment You can turn things around. Whether You do it gradually or suddenly, I will rest in You. I declare You are the Coming One. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Too Good to Be True?

Today's Scripture

“Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!” “No, my lord!” she cried. “O man of God, don’t deceive me and get my hopes up like that.” 2 Kings 4:16, NLT

A wealthy woman and her husband in Shunem had tried to have a child for years but were now too old. It was the one thing missing in her life, a dream that was close to her heart and one she wanted so badly, but she had given up. When the prophet Elisha spoke today’s Scripture, she didn’t have the faith. Down deep she wanted to believe, but her mind told her all the reasons why it wasn’t going to happen. She was saying, “Don’t get my hopes up. That’s too good to be true.” But what God had spoken over her came to pass. God exceeded her expectations even though she didn’t believe. That’s the kind of God we serve.

Even if you don’t have the faith, there are some things that God is still going to do. Just because you gave up doesn’t mean God gave up. He is so merciful, so loving, that He’s going to override your unbelief and do things that you never dreamed, things that will bring you more joy, more fulfillment than you can imagine.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Almighty God who makes what seems too good to be true become a reality. Thank You that one touch of Your favor can turn around what looks like it will never change. I believe that You are going to do more than I can imagine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Hardened to Difficulties

Today's Scripture

I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you. Isaiah 41:10, AMPC

If twenty years ago you faced some of the difficulties you face today, they would have defeated you. God knows what you can handle. As you keep passing these tests, He’s hardening you to difficulty. You’re getting stronger. Your faith is growing. Your endurance is increasing. Your spiritual muscles are being built up. The reason God is doing this is because there are awesome things in your future. God is taking you to a wide and spacious place. He’s going to enlarge your territories. But with greater influence comes greater giants. With greater blessings comes greater opposition. With greater favor comes greater persecution. If He didn’t harden you to difficulty, you couldn’t withstand what comes against you.

You may be going through some things today that aren’t fun. You may be uncomfortable, but you have to realize that God is not making you suffer. He’s working through the difficulty to deposit something inside you. He’s growing you up, getting you stronger, increasing your faith. Be encouraged that everything you are going through is necessary for where God is taking you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Your hand has been upon my life in so many ways, hardening me to difficulties, getting me stronger, growing me up. Thank You that You are making deposits in my life to help me withstand the enemy. I believe that You are preparing me for where You’re taking me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why Hide?

Today's Scripture

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Hebrews 4:13, NLT

Adam and Eve were the first ones to try to hide and cover up their sin from God, but we’ve all done it since then. David tried to cover up his sin with Bathsheba and pretended for over a year that he was doing just fine. It might be about a situation where we compromised, or guilt over an addiction, or pride, or anger. It might be about our shortcomings, failures, or insecurities. We have to try really hard to pretend, to look good and protect our image, as well as to try to ignore what we feel deep down.

Why try to hide? God already knows the areas you struggle in. He knows your weaknesses, your sins, your failures. He knows who you really are, not who you pretend to be. A much better way to live is to say, “God, I’m tired of pretending to be something I’m not. I want to be real. Here’s what I’ve covered, and I have no excuse for it. I’m asking You to change me, to make and mold me. I can’t do it on my own.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I don’t have to hide my weaknesses or shortcomings. Search my heart and show me where my motives are wrong and where I’m pretending. I humbly admit that I don’t have it all together, and I’m glad You’re still working on me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It Is Yours

Today's Scripture

“Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” So Abram…built an altar to the LORD. Genesis 13:17–18, NIV

Abraham and his nephew Lot had such great herds and flocks that the land couldn’t support them both. Abraham allowed Lot to take the best land, with plenty of springs and lush pastures, and Abraham ended up with dry land that was not nearly as desirable. After this disappointment, after Abraham was having to start over, God spoke to him today’s Scripture, and Abraham’s response was to build an altar. He didn’t have the land yet, but he thanked God that what He promised was on the way. He knew the power of an altar.

God has whispered promises in your spirit that may seem impossible. Now do your part and build the altar. Thank God that it’s on the way. Remind Him of His greatness. Go back over the times when God opened a door you couldn’t open or prospered you despite all the odds. When you look back at the altars you’ve built and thank God for what He’s done, that’s fuel for your faith. That makes it easier to build those altars looking ahead, thanking God for what He’s about to do.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I am not limited by what the people around me do or how they treat me. Thank You that You can override difficult circumstances and bring about what You have destined me to do. I will not allow others to put a limitation on what You have put in my heart. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
