Cast Your Burden

Today's Scripture

Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22, AMPC

In Psalm 55, David describes a very serious anxiety attack that he went through. We don’t know how long it was, but in today’s Scripture he tells us what he learned. He was saying, “I was so overwhelmed with anxiety that I thought my life was over. Having lived through it, here’s what I’m going to do different next time. I’m going to cast my anxieties on the Lord and release the weight of those worries.”

Are you holding on to anxieties over your children, a work situation, or your health? We wonder when God is going to do something, but God is waiting on us to release it. Quit carrying all these things that you’re not supposed to carry. As long as you hold on to anxiety, it’s going to hold you down. Cast that burden on the Lord and release the weight of it. Releasing it is an act of faith. Trust Him in the trouble. Trust Him when you don’t see a way. Trust Him when you don’t understand, and He will sustain you. He will bring you safely through.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You know all the weights and anxieties that I am carrying. Thank You that I can come to You and cast all the burdens of heaviness, worry, regrets, and feelings of frustration upon You. I will rest in Your love and mercy and forgiveness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s Going to Happen Quickly

Today's Scripture

For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching….So they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives. 2 Kings 7:6–7, NLT

The city of Samaria was surrounded by a huge Syrian army. The Israelites’ food supply had been cut off, and now the people were starving. They didn’t have the army, the weapons, or the strength to fight back. The situation looked impossible. It was just a matter of time before they would die. But God is not limited by what you don’t have. He’s not intimidated by how big the opposition is, by how bad the medical report is, by what the financial statement says. He used the sound of a great approaching army to cause the Syrians to flee for their lives, leaving behind an abundance of provision for the Israelites.

God knows how to get rid of the opposition quickly. Don’t be discouraged by how permanent that obstacle looks or how much more powerful it seems than you. You have an advantage. The Most High God is on your side. He knows how to cause your enemies to hurry out of your way. You’re going to see some things turn around quickly, problems resolve suddenly, and the opposition be defeated rapidly.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the God who can do the impossible and who loves to surprise us. Thank You that one touch of Your favor can turn around what looks like it will never change. I believe that this is a new day and You are going to do more than I can imagine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Harvest Time

Today's Scripture

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. John 4:35, KJV

There are seasons of waiting, seasons of being faithful, doing the right thing when it’s hard. What you’re believing for may not have happened for a long time. Now you’re tempted to just settle where you are and think it wasn’t meant to be. But at some point that season of testing will come to an end and the harvest is ready. Notice the principle in today’s Scripture. “Say not it’s four months away. Say not it’s never going to happen. Say not that one day you’ll get the breaks you need.” If you’re always in the future, the “say not”s will keep you from God’s best. You have to get rid of the “say not”s. Now is the time to believe. Now is the time to stretch your faith. Keep an expectancy in your spirit. What you’re hoping for is not way off in the distance. It’s closer than you think. You’re close to the victory. You’re close to the breakthrough. This is not the time to be discouraged. This is the time to stir up your faith. This is your harvest time.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can wait upon You with a spirit of expectancy for those things in my life that I am believing You for. Thank You that You have a harvest that is ready to be reaped. I believe that this is my time and the answer is on the way today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

He Hears

Today's Scripture

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14, NIV

Are you living frustrated because your prayers aren’t being answered the way you want? Your plans aren’t working out? Take the pressure off. God is in control. He’s still on the throne. You’re not always going to understand it. If you did, it wouldn’t take any faith. You could save yourself a lot of frustration if you’d learn to have unconditional trust. The closed doors, the disappointments, the delays—it’s all working for you. And yes, it’s good to be determined. Be persistent. But let God answer your prayers His way. If He’s not changing it, not removing it, not opening it, don’t fight it. Learn to embrace where you are. He’s given you the grace not just to be there but to be there with a good attitude. If you’re going to pass the test, keep a smile on your face. Keep a song in your heart. Keep passion in your spirit. Don’t drag through the day the Lord has made. He’s working out His plan for your life. He’s going to get you to where you’re supposed to be.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the privilege of coming to You, the Creator of the universe, and being able to ask You for the things that are on my heart. Thank You that You hear me and are faithful to bring Your will to pass. I believe and declare that the answer is on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Shine

Today's Scripture

So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat! Genesis 39:6, NLT

Joseph’s brothers so despised him that they sold him to Midianite merchants who took him to Egypt and sold him as a slave to a man named Potiphar. Joseph’s whole world was turned upside down. He went from being his father’s favorite son with dreams of leadership to being a slave in a foreign country. He didn’t speak the language, and his freedom was gone. You would think he would be bitter, but you never read that Joseph complained. He kept being his best even though everything was going wrong. So much so that Potiphar put Joseph in charge of all his household. Joseph wasn’t just going through it, he was growing through it. His attitude was: “God, this is where You have me, so I’m going to shine. It’s unfair, but I know you’re here with me.”

When you do the right thing when the wrong thing is happening, your spiritual muscles, your integrity, your endurance, and your faith are growing. When you prove to God that you have the character, He’ll open doors you could never open.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your presence and favor in my life that no situation or person can take away. Thank You that my reputation and the respect I’m given are in Your hands. I believe that You are always my vindicator and my part is to just keep doing the right thing. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Why the Closed Door?

Today's Scripture

My troubles turned out all for the best—they forced me to learn from your textbook. Psalm 119:71, MSG

One of the hardest things for us is to let things go. We fight closed doors, get discouraged over who walked away, bitter over the dream that didn’t work out. You have to realize that God stopped it, not to make your life miserable, but to take you into something bigger, better, more fulfilling. The trouble, the disappointment, the loss, or the rejection may not make sense right now, but later on you’ll see what God was up to. If He hadn’t closed that door, you wouldn’t have stepped into the new level. If He hadn’t caused that person to move on, you wouldn’t have met that divine connection. If that opportunity didn’t dry up, you wouldn’t have discovered the potential in you. Trust Him when you don’t understand. It’s not random. It’s a necessary ending.

God is your doorkeeper. He opens and closes doors to push us in our purpose and to learn lessons we wouldn’t learn any other way. Stay in faith. God’s ways are not our ways. Your troubles will turn out for the best.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the doorkeeper of my life. Thank You that disappointments and troubles cannot keep me from what You have purposed for me. I believe that You are opening and closing the right doors, and I’m looking for Your best. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

All Power

Today's Scripture

…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience. Colossians 1:11, NIV

Too often we see ourselves as average, as limited. We hear the stories about Moses, David, and Daniel and think, “They were powerful and did amazing things, but they were called by God and anointed.” Can I tell you that you are called, chosen, and anointed as well? Yes, we need to honor who they are, but they were people just like you and me. They were chosen to live in their day; you’ve been chosen to live in this day. Why don’t you believe that you are a giant killer, a barrier breaker, a history maker?

The truth is that if you weren’t “being strengthened with all power according to God’s glorious might,” some of the things that you’ve been through—the sickness, the loss, the setback, the disappointment—would have defeated you. But you’re still standing and moving forward. You’re not bitter; you’re blessed. It wasn’t by your own strength; it was the Lord your God breathing on your life. If you’re going to reach your full potential, you have to believe you are powerful, that you have the favor of God.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Your power is at work to strengthen me in order that I can have great endurance and accomplish great things. Thank You that I can put discouragement behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that I am called, chosen, and anointed to be an overcomer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
