Rise Up

Today's Scripture

Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again. Proverbs 24:16, NIV

Sometimes when we’ve fallen into sin and are down on ourselves, we’re waiting for God to do something for us when He’s waiting for us to say, “I will rise again. I’m not going to go through life beating myself up, living condemned. Yes, I’ve done wrong, but I know I’m forgiven. I know I’ve been redeemed.” Those mistakes you made didn’t cancel your destiny. Quit listening to the accuser who will remind you of everything you’ve done wrong. Don’t sit around feeling discouraged and defeated, thinking about all the mistakes you’ve made. God has already forgiven you. Now forgive yourself and move on.

It’s time to rise up and get your fire back, get your passion back. Nothing you’ve done is too much for the mercy of God. He knew every mistake you would ever make. He’s already taken into account your wrong turns. He has a plan even for the times when you’ve missed it. Now rise up, and the chains of condemnation that try to hold you back will be broken. You can still become who you were created to be.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God, and because You have redeemed me, I know that I am forgiven. Help me when I fall to never stay down in discouragement and condemnation. I declare that I will rise up, get my passion back, and defeat the enemy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It Can Happen Quickly

Today's Scripture

“I am the LORD, and when it is time, I will make these things happen quickly.” Isaiah 60:22, NCV

When we look at the dreams we want to accomplish and problems we’re hoping will turn around, it can seem like it’s going to take a long time—years to get out of debt, years to recover from a sickness, years to see your business grow. But God doesn’t always follow a normal timeline. He says, “When the time is right, I will do it quickly.” He knows how to speed things up. He knows how to accelerate your dreams, accelerate your healing, accelerate what you’re believing for. He has fast-forward moments of favor coming your way when He will catapult you ahead.

This is why you can’t judge your future based on the progress you’ve seen in the past. Everything seems routine. You’re going along at the same pace and making the same progress. Then out of nowhere, one good break, one contract, one door opens, and you’re suddenly twenty years down the road. Suddenly you’re in management, suddenly you break the addiction, suddenly a relationship is restored. You didn’t see it coming, and you can’t explain it. It’s God accelerating things, propelling you forward.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have fast-forward moments of favor with breakthroughs that change what has seemed unchangeable. Thank You that You’re orchestrating what You’ve ordained for my life to be fulfilled. I believe that You will make quick work of what could take years. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Peace in the Process

Today's Scripture

Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.Isaiah 64:8, NIV

It’s easy to get down on ourselves because we’re not as far along as we want to be. We focus on our flaws, our shortcomings. Some people live with this nagging feeling inside, telling them something is wrong with them and how they don’t measure up. We put all this pressure on ourselves to change. “I have to be more disciplined…watch my mouth…be a better mother…a better spouse…a better employee.” But God is our potter. He controls the process of changing and shaping you, the when and how fast. The key is to accept yourself while God is in the process.

You’re not supposed to go through life being against yourself, overanalyzing your faults. Focusing on your weaknesses doesn’t help you improve. All that does is slow down the process. It’s good to want to improve, to strive for excellence and grow, but don’t get frustrated if it’s not happening as fast as you’d like. Only God can change some things. Until He gives you the grace to do it, accept yourself where you are. It takes maturity to have peace in the process.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the potter and I am the clay. Thank You for where I am right now, faults and all, and that You hold me in Your hands and are molding and making me. Help me to stop being against myself and to simply trust You with the process for further change. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Healthy Boundaries

Today's Scripture

Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10, NIV

It’s easy to go through life trying to please others out of guilt and pressure. A relative or friend will get upset and have their feelings hurt every time we don’t do what they want. They use control and manipulation to get their way. They expect us to perform, to be there every time they call, to make sure they’re taken care of. If not, they try to make you feel guilty as though it’s your job to keep them fixed, happy, encouraged, and entertained. But here’s a key: You are not responsible for other people’s happiness. You are responsible for your own happiness. Take that pressure off. If you continue to give in, you’ll not have the time and energy for your dreams, and you’ll enable their dysfunction. As long as they have you, they don’t have to change.

You have to set some healthy boundaries, or you won’t have healthy relationships. You have to be strong enough to say, “I refuse to be manipulated by others into trying to meet their demands and fix them. I am not responsible for their happiness.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You did not make me to fix other people and try to please them by fulfilling their wishes and demands. I want to be loving and kind and help others who are in real need, but help me to be bold and set healthy boundaries with those who would manipulate and control me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Bind and Loose

Today's Scripture

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:19, NIV

We all have things that come against us and try to hinder us and keep us from our destiny. It might be a sickness, depression, an addiction, low self-esteem, or poverty. Sometimes we’re dealing with a dysfunction that’s been passed down in our family line for generations. It’s easy to accept it and think that’s our lot in life, that we’ll always be held back. But God didn’t create you to live restricted, bound, or broken. That may be the way it’s been, but that’s not the way it’s going to stay. The good news is that Jesus came to free you from what’s bound you. He has already ordained times of release when He looses you from what’s holding you back, when He breaks chains, frees you from the sickness, delivers you from oppression, stops the dysfunction.

Jesus says that whatever you bind will be bound and whatever you loose will be loosed. So get in agreement with Him and bind whatever is hindering you and loose whatever needs to be released. You’re about to come into supernatural release, something you couldn’t make happen.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that Jesus is the chain breaker who frees me from whatever has me bound. Thank You that You have given me the keys of the kingdom to bind whatever is hindering me and to loose whatever needs to be released. I believe this is my time of release. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Angels Came

Today's Scripture

Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. Matthew 4:11, ESV

After Jesus had endured forty days of fasting in the desert and was exhausted and at His weakest, the enemy came to tempt Him. Jesus resisted three temptations that must have brought Him close to a breaking point in His human limitations. Notice that after He passed these tests, God the Father sent angels to strengthen Him, to refresh Him, to give Him what He needed for His destiny. The Scripture says that “Jesus came out of the desert in the power of the Spirit.” How could He come out more powerful after He faced so much opposition? Angels showed up, bringing supernatural strength, energy, favor, and courage.

You may be in a season when you’re fighting the good fight but suffering from battle fatigue. You don’t see how you can keep going. God is about to send angels to strengthen you, to bring new life, fresh vision, and encouragement. You’re not just going to make it through it. You’re going to come out in the power of the Spirit, with fresh vision, fresh favor, and ready for the new levels that God has in store.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that my life is in Your hands, and You send Your angels to minister to me in the midst of my battles. Thank You for the silent seasons, for the times of testing when I don’t always understand where You’re taking me. I trust You to take me through the desert into something bigger for my future. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Recognize God’s Goodness

Today's Scripture

“Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and exalt and glorify the King of heaven, because everything he does is right and all his ways are just. And those who walk in pride he is able to humble.” Daniel 4:37, NIV

In Daniel 4, King Nebuchadnezzar had been boasting that it was by his power that the great city Babylon had been built. Even while he was speaking, God said, “Nebuchadnezzar, this day you lost the kingdom.” Why is that? God will not share His glory. If you’re going to claim it as your own, as though it was by your ability or strength, He’ll step away, with consequences. For seven years, Nebuchadnezzar lost his throne and his sanity.

What’s interesting is that when Nebuchadnezzar changed his mind and realized it was God who had given him the favor, that it was God who had promoted him, he humbled himself and spoke today’s Scripture. A few verses earlier he was saying, “My power, my might.” Now he was saying, “I praise the King of heaven.” Instead of taking the credit, he started giving God the credit. When he did, God gave him another chance and put him back in power. When you’re constantly giving God the honor and credit for what He’s done, there’s no limit to how high you will go.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God who rules over the nations. I recognize Your goodness in my life and where I am at today. You chose to bless me, to have mercy on me, and to take me where I couldn’t go on my own. I humble myself and give You all the glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Stress Eliminator

Today's Scripture

For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Ephesians 2:10, AMPC

It’s easy to think that we have to make everything happen in our lives—make our dream come to pass, make a door open, make a person like us. This can be stressful and discouraging because there are so many things we can’t make happen. We face obstacles that we can’t overcome. The good news is that we’re not doing life on our own. It’s not just up to us.

The apostle Paul wrote that God has already prearranged a good life for you. He’s already planned out your days. He’s lined up the right people, the right breaks, solutions to problems. He’s put in you the gifts, the talents, and the potential so you can live this good life. When you realize the plan the Creator of the universe has prearranged, you know that you’re not at the mercy of fate, happenstance, or coincidence. You won’t be wondering, “What if this problem doesn’t turn around?” No, you can be confident that God has gone ahead and is ordering your steps. He has things planned out before you get there. At an appointed time, you will discover it.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You were working on Your plan for my life long before I got here. Thank You that I can stay in peace knowing that You are working behind the scenes and ordering my steps. Help me to be patient and know that You are bringing me into my purpose. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Are You Asking and Asking?

Today's Scripture

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24, NIV

What are you believing for? It might be to accomplish a dream, to meet the right person, or for your health to turn around. You’ve prayed, believed, stood in faith, but it hasn’t happened yet. Sometimes we want it so badly and are so determined that we keep asking and asking, “God, You have to turn this around. Please heal my child. Please give me this good break.” But here’s the key: Once you pray, you don’t have to ask again. From then on, you need to thank God that it’s on the way. Take Him at His word.

Jesus says that when you pray, believe that you have received it at that moment. Believe that God is so faithful that He set the miracle into motion, that in the unseen realm angels are dispatched with your healing, your breakthrough, your freedom. Believe that it happened right then. If you receive when you believe, if you already have it by faith, you don’t have to keep asking for it. You have to switch over from asking to thanking God, expecting that it’s on the way.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for all the promises You’ve given to me in Your Word. Thank You that I don’t have to worry about if or how You’re going to make them happen or stress out when I don’t see things changing. I will believe first and declare that answers are on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Healthy Pressure

Today's Scripture

Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way. James 1:2–4, MSG

Sometimes we think we’ll get to a perfect place where there’s no more pressure, no people getting on our nerves, no traffic delays. We’re looking for a season when everything falls into place, there’s plenty of money in our bank account, and we’re healthier than ever. But the truth is that there’s healthy pressure. If you were comfortable all the time, you couldn’t reach your potential. If you didn’t face opposition and things you don’t understand that are not changing, you would never develop endurance, trust, and character. That pressure is getting you prepared. You have to face resistance to get stronger.

God will allow pressure-filled situations where you don’t know how things can work out. He’s not making your life miserable; He’s providing opportunities to grow. That’s when you have to rely on Him. When you’re pressured, you learn to stretch your faith, to pray bold prayers, and to believe for what looks impossible. The pressure is causing you to get stronger. Quit fighting it and learn to embrace it. God wouldn’t have allowed it if He wasn’t using it to serve His purpose.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for the gift of healthy pressure that tests and challenges me. Thank You that You are preparing me and making me stronger and growing me up. I declare that I will count it all joy and embrace it, knowing it is serving Your purpose. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
