Balanced

Today's Scripture

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. Psalm 23:2, NIV

It’s interesting how often we feel that we can somehow defy the natural laws of living a balanced life and still expect to feel good. When you feel the blahs, you need to get in an environment that’s uplifting. Don’t come home from work and sit in a dark house, watch sad movies, listen to sad music, think sad thoughts, eat sad food, and hang around sad people. Open the shades and let some light in. Put on some inspiring music. Go outside and take a walk and get some fresh air. Get some exercise and shake off the sedentary lifestyle. Get your endorphins kicking in. God has put certain hormones in us that give us a boost and make us feel more passionate when we activate them. They help take the negativity away. You need proper sleep, and you need to eat healthy.

Practical steps can help keep us being passionate and having the energy and vision that we should. You’re only going to find it when you’re living balanced, when the Good Shepherd is leading you in the way you should live.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for giving me my body to live in and to care for as a temple of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You that You made me to work and be productive as well as to rest and to laugh. Help me keep myself healthy and living a balanced life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Faithfulness

Today's Scripture

The LORD rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness. 1 Samuel 26:23, NIV

You may be consistently making decisions that honor God. You’ve stayed faithful in your marriage, made sacrifices for your children, been your best at your job, gone the extra mile to help others. You’ve done the right thing, but you haven’t seen the dreams of your heart come to pass. Your time is coming. God rewards faithfulness. He is about to do something unusual. Blessings are going to find you, the right people are going to track you down, healing is going to come knocking at your door, promotion that thrusts you to a new level. The problem you’ve struggled with for years is about to suddenly turn around. You’re not going to have to make it happen. Don’t be impatient for God to act. Those dreams He’s placed in your heart are still on the schedule. Those promises He’s whispered to you in the night are still in your future. Sometimes the reason it’s taking so long is that what God has for you is bigger than you’ve imagined. He’s getting you prepared to carry the weight of greater blessing.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the true and living God and that You reward those who are faithful and obey You. Thank You that my faithfulness can never earn Your blessing, but it can lead to it. I believe that when I am doing the right thing, You will reward me with favor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Is It Your Time?

Today's Scripture

“Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Esther 4:14, NLT

God is looking for some Esthers today. She was a Jewish orphan living in exile in Persia whom God raised up out of obscurity to become the queen. When a decree was made that on a certain date all the Israelites were to be annihilated, Esther, against court protocol, went into the king’s chamber unannounced. That was forbidden, and unless she was granted the king’s favor, she could be put to death. Her attitude was: “I’ve been raised up for such a time as this, and I cannot shrink back in fear. If I perish, I perish.” Because Esther stepped into the unknown by faith, the king changed the decree and the Israelites were saved.

Perhaps you’re facing a problem with huge consequences. You’ll be tempted to shrink back, let fear and intimidation convince you to play it safe. But God wants to show Himself strong through your life. You are where you are for just such a time as this. God will do what only He can do when you activate your faith and step forward. Arise and take the first step.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for all You have done in my life and for every opportunity to step forward by faith and make a difference in the lives of others. Help me to be more aware of the people and needs around me and to be bold to use my gifts and talents to help others. Show Yourself strong through me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Winter Always Gives Way to Spring

Today's Scripture

Look, the winter is past, and the rains are over and gone. The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come. Song of Solomon 2:11–12, NLT

You may be in a winter season, not seeing the favor, the growth, or the fruit you’ve seen in the past. None of us like to go through difficulties, but when you understand that without the winter you can’t see greater growth, greater fruit, then you don’t complain. Instead, you say, “Lord, thank You that I can do this season of taking care of my elderly parents, or when I’m not being treated right at work, or when I’m dealing with this illness.” Like a tree in winter, you’re gathering up sap, getting stronger. Your character is being developed; you’re learning to trust God in a greater way. You wouldn’t be in winter if God didn’t have something bigger coming. The fact that your branches are bare is a sure sign that increase is coming.

You have to know that winter always gives way to spring. God is about to do a new thing. This spring season is going to bring great joy, great favor, great health, great relationships. It’s going to be favor, opportunity, and influence greater than you could imagine.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You change the times and seasons of my life, and You know what is best for me. Thank You that You’re always working behind the scenes on my behalf. Help me to stay open to what You’re doing and not be stuck in the past season. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It’s by Grace

Today's Scripture

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. 1 Corinthians 15:10, NIV

Many people are talented and have had God’s favor, but they get distracted by what someone says negatively about them, bitter over a wrong, and try to prove they are not what was said. Because they didn’t let go of an offense, they become defensive, harsh, and critical. If you hold on to an offense, it will begin to change who you are. But if you’re like the apostle Paul and know who God has made you to be by His grace, you are free to walk away from the insults and disrespect. You release the negative, walk by what God has done in your spirit, and keep moving forward.

God will never let you face situations that are too much for you to handle. The next time that you’re tempted to get upset, offended, and pay someone back, try a different approach. “I can handle this. I have the grace for where I am. I’m going to stay cool, remain calm, and let God fight my battles.” When you do that, you’ll see His blessing, His favor, and His goodness on your life.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that my life is in Your hands—not just my strengths and gifts, but my weaknesses and shortcomings. Thank You that by Your grace I am what I am today, and I’m on the way to where You’re taking me. Help me to live free and unoffended. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Through the Dark Valley

Today's Scripture

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4, ESV

Some days feel very dark and can be frightening. News reports of accidents, violent crimes, wars, viruses, and inflation shake us to the core and strike fear and uncertainty. There are enemy forces that would love for us to shrink back and change—from peaceful to panic, from trusting to troubled, from knowing that God is on the throne to fearing what lies ahead.

As David said, we all will face some dark valleys, some shadowy days when someone does us wrong and walks away, or a medical report is not good, or a child goes off course. But when fear knocks, you have to answer with faith as he did. David dared to declare, “When darkness comes, I will not give in to a spirit of fear and let it change who I am. I’m walking through this valley and not stopping here.” He refused to get stuck in anxiety and stress, letting negative images play in his mind, rehearsing disappointments, hurts, and heartaches. Those images may come, but you can’t let them keep playing. You have to switch over into faith.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that when I walk through dark valleys and adversities, You walk with me, and I have no reason to be afraid or worried. Thank You that You are my Good Shepherd and I can answer any fear with faith. I declare that I am walking through the valley and not stopping here. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Serve Your Way Up

Today's Scripture

Serve the LORD with gladness and delight. Psalm 100:2, AMP

Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and served in the household of Potiphar. He could have been bitter and slacked off, but he kept being his best, serving with excellence, doing more than required. Potiphar noticed and put him in charge of his whole household. When Joseph was unjustly put in prison, the same thing happened there. He was so excellent that he was put in charge of the prison. All that led to his interpreting Pharaoh’s dream and being made prime minister of Egypt.

You can serve your way up. People notice when you go the extra mile. You should be so productive, so above and beyond, so exceptional at work that there’s a gap when you’re not there. That doesn’t mean you have the most talent; it means you know how to serve well. Keep serving, keep being faithful, keep helping somebody else rise higher. Serve your family with a smile, go to work with a good attitude, sing in the choir with joy. Remember that you’re serving the Creator of the universe. He’s keeping the records.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for calling me to be a person of excellence in everything I do, to go the second mile and always be my best. I want being my best to flow out of my heart of love for You. I believe that as I give it my all, I will see Your goodness and favor in my life in new ways. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Who Says You’re Limited?

Today's Scripture

So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon David from that day on. 1 Samuel 16:13, NLT

David was a teenager working in the fields, taking care of his father’s sheep. It was just another ordinary day. He was doing the right thing, being faithful to do his menial job, when he heard his father calling him to the house. He thought, “Why’s he calling me? It’s the middle of the day.” He arrived home and was surprised that all of his brothers were there. Even more surprising, the prophet Samuel, who was a deeply respected and influential man in Israel, was waiting for him. This was a big deal. While they were all watching, Samuel pointed to David and said, “He is the next king of Israel.” David had never met Samuel, never turned in a résumé, never set up an interview, yet this respected prophet showed up and anointed him as the next king.

Do you think you’re limited by where you are today? God has ordained people whom you don’t even know to open doors and take you to levels higher than you’ve imagined. You are going to say, “Who would have ever thought I could end up here?”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You know where the good breaks are, the right connections, the opportunities that will take me to the next level. Thank You that when I keep doing the right thing and am faithful, You bring me everything I need. I believe that my Samuels are on the way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Unprecedented Favor

Today's Scripture

So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people….So make for yourself an ark of cypress wood.” Genesis 6:13–14, NIV

Noah heard God say to build a 450-foot long ark, but it didn’t make sense. A flood had never happened before. Noah was undoubtedly the talk of the region. “That crazy fool is spending his life building a gigantic boat. He says God is going to make it rain and cover the earth, but He’s going to spare Noah and his family and two of every kind of animal.” Noah didn’t let the naysayers cause him to doubt. He knew they hadn’t heard what he heard. He just kept building, kept announcing it, kept thanking God for His favor.

God is going to put things in your spirit that no one in your family may have ever experienced. When you’re believing for what God has said, the enemy will use people to plant doubt and negativity. “Do you really think that’s possible? I just don’t see how.” Don’t let them talk you out of the healing, promotion, influence, and new levels that God has for you. You are coming into a day where you’re going to see unprecedented favor, things that didn’t seem possible.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God, and You hold my destiny in Your hands. Thank You that You are my great defender when I come under personal criticism and attack. Help me to ignore insignificant distractions that try to keep me from Your best. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Don’t Give Away Your Power

Today's Scripture

Saul became even more afraid of him, and he remained David’s enemy for the rest of his life. 1 Samuel 18:29, NLT

king Saul grew jealous of David’s popularity and eventually tried to kill David, chasing him in the wilderness for years. It’s interesting that even though David kept doing the right thing, respecting God’s anointing on Saul and refusing to retaliate, God didn’t change Saul and suddenly make him like David. The reality is that some of the people who are not for you, who say untrue things about you, and who treat you badly may be that way your whole life. The question is whether you will allow your happiness to be dependent on other people. Don’t put your power in their hands.

What God has purposed for your life is not dependent on whether others approve you, accept you, or validate you. Quit worrying about what they think. Quit spending time and energy trying to defend yourself. Those are distractions. God has put greatness in you. He’s destined you to leave your mark, to set a new standard for your family. Just as He did for David, if you leave it in His hands, He will take care of those who are trying to stop you.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can trust You to take me through difficulties and unfair situations. Thank You that my joy and happiness are not dependent on others’ approval or acceptance. I believe and declare that You are my vindicator and that You will deal with those who oppose me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
