Rich in Mercy

Today's Scripture

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4–5, ESV

It’s easy to believe that God will bless us when we’re doing what’s right and making good choices. But the beauty of the mercy of God is that even when we make mistakes, when we’ve done the wrong thing, He doesn’t say, “Too bad. You had your chance, but you blew it. Now you’re on your own.” No, His mercy covers you. His mercy is bigger than any mistake. He is not holding that against you. God will not only help bring you out of the trouble, He’ll help clean up the mess and cause something good to come out of it.

If this is going to happen, you can’t sit around feeling guilty, condemned, and beating yourself up because of past mistakes. It takes a boldness to believe that God will bless you in spite of what you’ve done. The accuser will say, “You made the mess. You went the wrong way. God’s not going to listen to you. Who do you think you are?” Answer back, “I am a child of the Most High God. I am redeemed, forgiven, covered by mercy.”

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are rich in mercy, and nothing is too hard for You to work out in my life. Thank You that You never give up on me when I’ve gone my own way and failed. Help me to hear Your word and simply believe that You will work wonders for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

What Really Matters

Today's Scripture

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:37, NKJV

All of us have areas that we struggle in. We make mistakes and do things we know are wrong. We determine to not give in to a temptation again, but we do. We lose our temper, don’t keep our word, let our guard down and compromise. It’s easy to go around feeling guilty, condemned, and beating ourselves up. Voices will whisper, “God’s never going to bless you. You don’t deserve it. You failed again. Just sit on the sidelines.” We think that we have to have a perfect performance for God to bless us. “Once I overcome all these weaknesses that I’m struggling with, then I’ll have God’s favor. Then I’ll feel good about myself.”

But God looks at your heart. He is not looking for people who have perfect behavior, who never make a mistake. He’s looking for people whose hearts are turned to loving Him. That means you may make mistakes, but deep down you have a desire to please and honor Him with your life. Your performance may not be perfect, but He sees your heart is right. It’s your heart that matters.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that I can come to You with an open and willing heart. Search me and know me. I struggle and make mistakes, and there is so much I need to improve on in my character, but my heart is committed to loving You. Show Yourself strong in my life today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Rest of God

Today's Scripture

Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest [of God, to know and experience it for ourselves]. Hebrews 4:11, AMP

Today’s Scripture talks about entering into the rest of God. That means that when you have a problem, you don’t lose sleep over it, knowing that God is in control. If you get a bad medical report, you’re not worried because you know nothing can snatch you out of God’s hands. If you have a financial setback or lose a client, you’re not upset because you know God will supply all your needs. You stay in peace because you’re trusting Him. You’re not up when you’re circumstances are up, and you’re not down when they’re down. You’re stable and consistent. You’re in the rest of God.

Are you losing sleep over something you can’t do anything about? Are you trying to change things that only God can change? As long as you’re being your best and honoring God, you can rest. Your load will get a lot lighter if you turn that over to Him and enter into His rest. Do what you can, use your common sense, then leave it up to God. Come back to a place of peace.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for providing a place where I can rest in Your grace and strength to fight my battles. Thank You that I can stay in peace and know that You can make things happen that I never could. I declare that I will not lose sleep over what I can’t change or do something about. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

It Is All by Grace

Today's Scripture

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:42–43, NIV

When Jesus was dying on the cross, there were two thieves crucified on each side of Him. One mocked Him and said, “You can’t even save yourself.” The other thief said, “Jesus, when You come into Your kingdom, please remember me.” He believed Jesus was the Messiah, that He was the King of God’s kingdom. Jesus didn’t respond, “I don’t know you. You didn’t follow Me or My teachings. You’re a thief.” No, Jesus said, “This day you will be with Me in paradise.” Down to His last breath on this earth, Jesus was showing us that He chooses strangers, that our past doesn’t determine our future, that when we’re at our worst, God is at His best. That’s when His mercy shows out. Jesus was saying, “By grace you are saved, through faith—it is a gift from God.”

The tragedy is to go through life being chosen and never recognizing it. You have to accept that God has a calling on your life. He’s put seeds of greatness in you. He’s given you a purpose, a divine assignment. And it’s all by grace.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that there is nothing I have to do to earn Your love and approval because of the grace and gift You have brought me in Jesus. Thank You that I can rest in who You made me and feel good about who I am. I believe that Your calling is upon me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Use Your Imagination

Today's Scripture

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5, KJV

You may have gone through a disappointment, a loss, an unfair situation. Life hasn’t turned out the way you thought. Worst-case images will come up of you living unhealthy, discouraged, struggling, never getting ahead. But God says He will give you beauty for those ashes, He will pay you back double for what was unfair, He will take what was meant for harm and use it to your advantage. The pictures that are playing in your imagination of rejection, defeat, and loneliness are exalting themselves above what God says about you. You have to pull them down. They’re not reality. The enemy will keep showing you the ashes, but not the beauty that’s coming. He’ll show you the loss, but not the new beginning that’s coming.

Now do your part and use your imagination for the right purposes—to see what God says about you. Start seeing yourself as joyful, healthy, having great relationships, having abundance so you can be a blessing. Use your imagination to inspire you, to strengthen you, to encourage you. Switch over to seeing what God says.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for giving me the power to control the imaginations playing in my mind. Thank You that I can cast down the negative imaginations that come against me, and I can use positive imaginations to keep moving forward. I’m switching over to faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Be Confident

Today's Scripture

I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Psalm 27:13, NIV

God gave Joseph a dream that he would be in leadership and do great things. That seed was planted in his heart, but for thirteen years everything he experienced looked just the opposite. He was sold into slavery in Egypt, falsely accused of a crime, then locked away in prison. He could have easily gotten bitter in that long dry season and said, “Where is the goodness of God in all of this pain?” But Joseph remained confident of God’s faithfulness and kept doing his best in spite of his circumstances. Then one morning he was suddenly called to interpret Pharaoh’s dream, and he went from being an imprisoned slave to the prime minister of Egypt.

You may be in a dry season. Thoughts will tell you, “God has forgotten about you. Things will never change.” No, God can quickly turn things around. One touch of His favor, one good break, one phone call, one divine connection, and suddenly the dry season ends. Keep being faithful. He’s going to bring you out better, promoted, stronger, healthier, at a new level of your destiny.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are my deliverer and vindicator when negative things come against me. Thank You for the confidence I can have that if I keep moving forward in faith, I will see Your goodness. I believe that You will amaze me with what You have planned. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Mask of Shame

Today's Scripture

Have mercy on me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins. Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. Psalm 51:1–2, NLT

Psalm 51 is the psalm in which David admits and repents of sins that he had covered up for over a year. He not only took off the mask of pretending he had done right, but under that mask was a mask of shame. “I can’t believe I did this. What is wrong with me? I’ll never become what I could have been.” The mask of shame will keep you from your destiny. Voices will constantly whisper, “You should feel ashamed and unworthy of being forgiven. Look what you did. You can’t take that mask off. You’re showing God that you’re sorry. You’re paying Him back for your sins.” No, the price has already been paid by Jesus. You can’t pay God back, and you don’t have to live guilty and condemned.

You may have issues that you’re not proud of, that you’ve covered up. It’s time to take off the mask of shame. No matter what you’ve done, God has mercy for you. He didn’t disqualify you. Acknowledge what it is and ask God to forgive you and cleanse the guilt away.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and great compassion that blots out the stain of my sins. Thank You that I can come to You for forgiveness and mercy and for truth in my heart. I ask for a clean heart and to walk in the joy of my salvation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Calmed

Today's Scripture

“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:17–18, NIV

We love that the three Hebrew teenagers wouldn’t bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden idol. But can you image the anxiety they faced knowing they were about to be thrown into a fiery furnace? They had to understand that God is in control, that nothing could happen to them without His permission. They made the decision to cast their anxiety upon God and trust their lives in His hands unconditionally. They received the peace that passes understanding and weren’t worried or panicked. They were calm in the midst of chaos. Not only were they not burned in the fire, but they came out without even the smell of smoke.

You may be in what feels like a fire now. Cast the care, cast the anxiety, cast the worry. God has you in the palms of His hands. He has it all figured out. Defeating anxiety requires trust. When you cast the anxieties on God and leave them with Him, you’ll not only have supernatural peace, but you’ll see God do supernatural things. When God brings it all together, it will be better than you’ve ever imagined.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for Your promise to be with me through the fire and flames. When I am attacked with anxious thoughts, I choose to trust in You and believe that You have it all figure out. I believe I will come through without the smell of smoke. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Faith or Feelings?

Today's Scripture

Elijah was afraid and fled for his life. 1 Kings 19:3, NLT

In 1 Kings 18, the prophet Elijah had just called down fire from heaven and destroyed all the prophets of Baal. It was a huge, dramatic victory. You can imagine the excitement, the high he was on. But when Queen Jezebel heard about it, she threatened to kill him. Elijah was terrified and fled for his life. When he finally stopped to rest, he was so discouraged that he wanted to die. He let his feelings rule and tell him he was finished when, in fact, his greatest impact was still in front of him. God was about to have Elijah mentor Elisha, who would do twice as many miracles as him.

Emotions are great when they’re working for us, but they can change in a minute. If you’re depending on feelings to determine your mood, your faith, or your belief, you’ll live up and down. Don’t let them dictate your life. Don’t live worried over that illness, stressed over your work, or guilty over past mistakes. God has you in the palms of His hands. Put your hope back in the Lord.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You have given me the power to rule over the negative emotions that come and try to overwhelm me. I come to You in faith declaring that I am finished with giving any room to negative thoughts and emotions. Fill me with Your joy and peace as I move forward in victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Power of Obedience

Today's Scripture

“Sir, if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’” So Naaman went down to the Jordan River and dipped himself seven times, as the man of God had instructed him. And his skin became as healthy as the skin of a young child, and he was healed! 2 Kings 5:13–14, NLT

Naaman was a powerful commander in the Syrian army who took offense when the prophet Elisha told him to wash seven times in the Jordan River and he would be healed of leprosy. It was a small obedience that didn’t make sense to him. His mind nearly talked him out of his miracle until his officers told him to just obey the simple instructions. What’s interesting is he didn’t have the faith that it would happen. He wasn’t singing praises and thanking God that the answer was coming. He was negative, sour, and complaining, but he was healed when he dipped down the seventh time.

Naaman’s healing wasn’t in the water; it was in the obedience. His obedience overrode the fact that he didn’t have the faith. That’s the power of obedience. Could it be that your healing, your promotion, your breakthrough, or the restoration will come if you just keep doing the right thing? Perhaps it will come when you obey the seventh time. Your obedience may be difficult, but God is the rewarder of those who honor and obey Him.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You that You are the true and living God and that You reward those who honor and obey You. Thank You that my obedience can never earn Your blessing but it can lead to it. I believe that when I am doing the right thing You will reward me with favor. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
