The first in a series of upper level troughs will be exiting the region this morning bringing an end to the overnight snow in most areas. The higher mountain regions will see isolated snow throughout the day with the lower elevations of the foothills and urban corridor seeing more snowfall this evening right amount commute time. Snowfall amounts from the next system will be from 1 to 4 inches with the far northeastern plains seeing the least amount. Lingering light snow will occur through Friday morning across northeastern Colorado with additional accumulations of less than an inch. http://weather.gov/bou

There will still be gusty west winds in the higher mountains and foothills this morning...with speeds up to 40 mph. Winds will be lighter this afternoon. A cold front will move southward through the area tonight with colder temperatures and a slight chance of snow over the northeast plains and northern mountains. Low clouds and patchy fog will also spread over the plains before daybreak on Monday.

A colder airmass will be in place over the region today with cooler temperatures. Mostly cloudy skies will remain over the urban corridor and foothills today with partly cloudy skies over the mountains. Gusty winds will develop again over the higher mountains and east slopes late tonight with possible gusts up to 45 mph. Dry conditions and temperatures will remain above normal through the week.

Snowfall will increase again in the Colorado high country this afternoon and evening as the next batch of Pacific moisture spreads across the state. Strong west to northwest flow aloft will combine with the snow to produce blowing and drifting snow and hazardous driving conditions. Wind gusts between 40 and 65 mph can be expected over the higher mountains and passes. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches can be expected in the Front Range mountains and Summit county by Monday morning, with 5 to 10 inches in the Rabbit Ears Pass area and sierra madre range.

...White Christmas with cold temperatures on tap...
Winter Weather Advisory for the Mountains...Foothills and Palmer Divide.

Snow will continue to develop across the mountains during the day and then spread eastward over the plains this evening. This will be a widespread snow event across the Central Rockies and Central High Plains...so anyone with travel plains should be prepared for winter driving conditions and slow travel.

Temperatures will remain cold across the plains today with high temperatures only reaching the lower to mid 20s. In the mountains, moisture aloft will be increasing as a broad upper level disturbance approaches from the west. Light snow is expected to develop over the mountains by this evening with a few inches of accumulation expected by Thursday morning.

Another cold day can be expected as arctic high pressure has
settled across the region. A weak upper level disturbance will
bring areas of light snow or flurries today, with up to an inch
of snow possible in areas southeast of a line from Akron to Deer
Trail and Kiowa. Only a light dusting is possible elsewhere.

For today and tonight:
Snow and wind will increase in the mountains, with heaviest
snowfall expected over western Jackson and western Grand counties.
It will be mild over the Urban Corridor and northeast plains
through mid afternoon. A cold front is expected to bring colder
temperatures and a chance of snow to the Urban Corridor and
northeast plains by this evening. In the mountains, snow
accumulations through tonight will range from 5 to 10 inches.
Across the Urban Corridor and northeast plains..1 to 2 inches of
snow will be possible with the heaviest amounts expected east of
Interstate 25.

A storm system over the Great Basin is expected to make its way
across Colorado this afternoon and tonight.


For Tuesday through Sunday:
Snow will redevelop over parts of the mountains Tuesday. Periods
of mountain snow will continue into Thursday. In addition to the
snow, windy conditions will create areas of blowing and drifting
snow in the mountains, mainly at mountain pass and ridge top
level. The foothills will see windy conditions late Tuesday night
into Thursday.

Temperatures will remain above normal today with no chance of precipitation. A weak weather system will bring a few snow showers to the Palmer Divide Wednesday and Wednesday evening. The next winter storm will move into North Central and Northeastern Colorado this weekend. This system will bring colder air and a chance of snow to all of the forecast area Saturday into Monday.
