Osama bin Laden's hideout: 4 surprising facts
A Red Onion Restaurant, a nearby golf course... and pot? A look at the lifestyle the über-terrorist enjoyed in the "sleepy town" of Abbottabad, Pakistan
As President Obama celebrates the signature national-security success of his tenure, he has a long list of people to thank. On the list: George W. Bush.
After the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, Bush waged wars in Afghanistan and Iraq that have forged a military so skilled that it carried out a complicated covert raid with only a minor complication. Public tolerance for military operations over the past decade has shifted to the degree that a mission carried out deep inside a sovereign country has raised little domestic protest.
And a detention and interrogation system that Obama once condemned as contrary to American values produced one early lead that, years later, brought U.S. forces to the high-walled compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, and a fatal encounter with an unarmed Osama bin Laden.
The Atlantic thinks this is the dumbest article they have ever read.
I won't say it's the dumbest article I've ever read (The Atlantic really ought to get out of their ivory tower and slum a little more if they think it is) but I'd certainly agree with the last paragraph in their analysis of it, especially the last sentence:
By this logic, we really ought to thank President Bush for the poor performance of FEMA during Hurricane Katrina. Think how Alabamans this year benefited from emergency management workers who learned what not to do in 2005! And the profligate spending and deficits? Without them the Tea Party might never have begun, so rank-and-file conservatives should thank the past president too. What a fun way to look at the world. Every failure and misstep can be made into a precursor of success.
Even the leftist hero has questions: Michael Moore: Bin Laden wasn't killed, he was executed

By Brent Lang TheWrap
"Osama bin Laden wasn't killed by a Navy SEAL team, he was straight up executed, Michael Moore told TheWrap on Wednesday.
The "Fahrenheit 9/11" director has been setting Twitter aflame Wednesday afternoon urging the Obama administration to come clean about the circumstances surrounding the terrorist leader's death -- particularly in light of the White House's shifting account of last weekend's firefight in Abbottabad.
The Oscar-winning director has been tweeting about his belief that Bin Laden should have received a trial, and his theory that Pakistan was keeping the Al Qaeda head under house arrest. TheWrap grilled Moore about his controversial views.
Michael Moore: Common sense tells you he was executed. That was the plan all along. Just tell us that and quit treating us like children.
I have a lot of faith in Obama, but we've received three different stories in three days. We heard, "There was a firefight." "He used a woman as a shield." Now it turns out none of these things were true. He wasn't armed.

You know what I wonder? I wonder why we always seem to get "dramatized" versions of these news-making military events. Remember Jessica Lynch? Who tarts these stories up in the first place? What genuis decided that saying that Osama used a woman as a human shield would play well in Peoria? I have a hard time believing it's the soldiers on the front lines, but I also doubt it happens at the top. Too many opportunities for the story to fall apart on scrutiny for these to be top-level decisions.

Because there's those in high offices (during ALL administrations) that believe securing additional personal power by taking credit for knowledge is more important than providing accurate information.

According to the reports everything was done to make sure that the Radical Islamists don't get angry at us and retaliate. That seems to be why ORambo decided that we can't see the pictures of Osama Bin Laden.
They rushed to immediately bury him at sea because it was the right thing to do, him being a Muslim, and all.
CAN ANYBODY TELL ME WHY THEY WEREN'T BRIGHT ENOUGH NOT TO BRING A FILTHY, DIRTY ( according to Islamist Law ) DOG to OSAMA BIN LADEN'S HOUSE????

Most people remember the first account they hear. Even when the facts are brought out later, the first story is what they will remember.
