From page one of this thread:
"Under current law, private sellers are not required to perform background checks at gun shows, something that federal licensed dealers are required to do. By some estimations, private sales make up 40 percent of total gun show sales."
And the date of the report is 05'.
I attend and sell at some of the shows, all the private sellers require you take the standard background check, costs 10.00 before you can buy from them as well, so the 40% is way off.
And here is the reason
Presently, 17 states regulate private firearm sales at gun shows. Seven states require background checks on all gun sales at gun shows (California, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Oregon, New York, Illinois and Colorado). Four states (Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) require background checks on all handgun, but not long gun, purchasers at gun shows. Six states require individuals to obtain a permit to purchase handguns that involves a background check (Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota). Certain counties in Florida require background checks on all private sales of handguns at gun shows. The remaining 33 states do not restrict private, intrastate sales of firearms at gun shows in any manner

and you don't see any loopholes in all that?
actually....thanks for all that info...it really did point out where more needs to be done to make sure every one gets a background check. Sorry my source was out of date. I would be interested in your sources.
I don't see terrorists buying guns at shows. And maybe a small percentage of felons might sneak thru and purchase one, but if they want one they will get it regardless of any new laws inacted, or proposed etc.
I can see our gov. selling to them and then claiming it was because of the loophoes, same as they did with gunrunner to mexico.
The point is that if the gov. can keep the public scared then they can control them, like sheep.

what are you actually saying? are you for or against having background checks for gun purchases? Or just don't care? I don't see anywhere that the government is trying to scare the public......but I do see a lot of "they're trying to take our guns away" hysteria from the right.
archer, the current admin is all about federal power, when states are already dealing with problems real or perceived. Control terrorists, not the law abiding American citizen.

No one is messin with the law abiding American citizen, they would have no problem passing a background test.

Glad to hear that, so you agree with The Patriot Act?
