I'd say that in most cases, the parents. But judging from some of the responses on this thread, there are some who clearly wouldn't have enough judgement. Anyone who thinks 8 year olds (no matter how "mature) should be driving farm tractors has a serious lack of judgement. And just making the excuse that it's always been that way doesn't negate or excuse that lack of judgement.

Those of you who whine and cry about regulations ought to stop and realize they are often put in place because too many people fail to or don't have the sense to regulate themselves. You may have the right to do any damn fool dangerous thing you want, but you don't have the right to put kids in harm's way. I'd feel exactly the same way about a parent that let their kid die of a treatable disease because they felt it was their "right" not to seek treatment.

YOU are a waste of skin! And YOU clearly don't have enough judgement to run your own life. No wonder you want the Government's help. And you are as stupid as anyone on here by your statements. You say that 'Anyone who thinks 8 year olds (no matter how "mature) should be driving farm tractors has a serious lack of judgement.' Well you are a total dumbass! And you can kiss my ass!! You are not an American at heart no matter what you say. Farmers had their kids helping at very early ages throughout our history and you now think that you know better? THAT is how Americans survived. Not with a damn silver spoon in their mouth like you trying to tell others how to live with your smug arrogance and utter lack of any intelligence. You are so F*N stupid that your posts make you look like you need serious meds!

All I can say is thank God you don't seem to have any children.

Why because they wouldn't be spoiled and government controlled with a stick up their ass like your would be or probably are if you hve them? And I hve helped to raise 6 kids and so far 4 that have graduated all have college degrees and great work ethics. And they weren't taught to be afrid of their own shadow and that the government knows better!

Or if they die of a heart attack playing basketball or they get hit in the chest by a baseball and die should they go to jail? You would have every parent in jail for negligence. Accident happen. Damn you are so government brain washed.

It's the very fact that you have no conception of the difference between an accident and negligence that causes me to say that there are clearly people so lacking in judgement on this matter that maybe it does have to be regulated.

No, because they'd probably be dead or maimed. And you'd be pointing to their "good work ethic" in spite of only having one arm as proof of what a great parent you are.

I like how Viking immediately starts insulting people he disagrees with. Can't you have a conversation without resorting name calling?

First of all, I haven't see any mention of people you know with a great work ethic who lost BOTH hands. There is a huge difference between losing one arm and losing both arms. I'm so glad those guys are doing well. I'd like to hear more about those who have lost both limbs, either arms or legs, because that surely has happened. No parent should willingly put their child at risk like that for a job. There are certainly child labor laws but they don't apply to children on farms because the farmers need those kids to survive. Sounds like something out of the pure 19th century.

And what was that Farmageddon junk? I saw nothing there but people prattling on about their plights with no evidence that I could look up to check it out for myself. I saw feds descending on someplace. Why did they do it? Why had they come to this farm before? Where is the context?

As to this:

Hey what parent lets their kids ride a dirtbkie at 3 OMG, and then builds them a jumping ramp in the backyard so they can master a triple backwards loop. OMG
And then goes and watches them at the Denver Colliseum perform this feat OMG. I think the government should step in.

The government IS stepping in. There is a bill in the works now. So contact your congressman and senator and support the bill.

Is it negligent of me for letting my kids ride their bikes around the neighborhood or are the cars that may hit them too much of a clear and present danger? Shouldn't the government ban all kids under 18 from walking or riding on streets when cars are present? I'll bet far more kids have been killed by cars than all the kids who have ever worked on a family farm.

And I'm sure the real point of these licenses is just another form or government revenue that the bureaucrats have yet to tap into and not the safety of the poor children.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

And I'll bet far more kids have been killed by cars than have been killed with sticks of dynamite. By your logic we should just go ahead and hand kids sticks of dynamite.

I always love it when politicians put on that soft, fuzzy, slightly teary-eyed face and say what they are proposing is "For The Children". Surely no one will oppose THAT! And what a line of crap it is! I wish they'd just be honest and say "Bend Over".
