BearMtnHIB knows perfectly well that Obama isn't a communist, it's just the worst thing he can think of to call him. To him, there isn't any bigger insult. It doesn't have to be literally accurate, anymore than it has to be literally accurate to call someone a "bastard". Communists are worse than the bogeyman to an old Cold War retread like him. The fact that even Communists aren't interested in communism anymore doesn't seem to occur to him.
What exactly is Obama? He is definitely a socialist.
Well a fascist and a socialist are nearly the same thing- they are looking for government control- I want the opposite, distributed control by individuals- not collective control by government.

I think he tends more towards fascism, without all the eugenics or violence of past fascist regimes.
Kinder more gentle fascism?
What I think is that our entire government is moving towards facism. It's a fallacy to think you have to have a facist leader a la Hilter in order for that to happen. Facism is nothing more nor less than the merger of business with government. Doesn't really matter if the occupant of the Oval Office believes in it or not, if the only way to get into the Oval Office is to go along with corporations who want to turn the office into an extension of their business plans.
This trend did not begin under Obama but it certainly became clear that it was becoming more entrenched after his election. A lot of people's "disappointment" with Obama is really the slow dawning that it doesn't really matter who is in the White House since he (or she) isn't really the one pulling the strings anyway anymore.

Yes LJ- I like to use the word communist for several reasons. First- it's accurate in describing what you all on the left stand for even if you think it's not so. The ultimate conclusion of you're political idology ends there- like it or not!
Second it's a term that people over 40 can relate to in some way- they remember the struggle we had with the socialist republics like Russia, Cuba and China- it's a term that America stood against.
And third- it seems to bother you all on the left a whole lot- maybe because you know it's true?
I know good and well the difference between communism and socialism, and the differences are very slight- so slight that the definitions are almost identical. The ultimate conclusion of a socialist democracy is communism- that's why it is so dangerous.

Geat post AV...Obama is just a bank/corporate whore, the difference is..He coulda been different. The country was ripe for change, he had the power of the people right after he was elected..He made it to the mountain top and he did'nt need their money anymore. He coulda stood up to the corporate takeover, but sadly, he did'nt..Maybe he knew he would'nt live long if he did, I don't know...But to see these right wing idiots bad mouth Obama when he's been exactly the same, or worse as the Republican presidents indicate to me that these people (mostly men) are just plain stupid. I don't know if this board is indicative of this entire area, but what we got here at 285bound are incredibly stupid, short sighted, angy ignorant men and inlightened and inteligent women..The women are the brains here! I don't think it's like that everywhere, but it's undeniable here..
