Morrison Police Generate Revenue at a Record Pace

Stay off threads I post on, and steer clear of me whenever you see me coming..

Thats my advice - VL

VL, did it ever occur to you that no one engages you because you are a lying sack of festering bovine excrement, so self impressed and arrogant that you couldn't buy an ounce of credibility if you were the last man on earth with anything of value?

Back on topic - drive the speed limit (precisely - they give speeding tickets for 1 MPH over the limit) and you have nothing to fear; Morrison seems to have focused on making their little stretch of 285 a cash cow. Drivers beware. I say take the high grade road and take your chances with the Jeffco SO instead.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

With apologies to Sammy Hagar and the boys in the band....

One foot on the brake and one on the gas, hey!
Well, there's too much traffic, I can't pass, no!
So I tried my best illegal move
Well, baby, Morrison come and touched my groove again!

Gonna write me up on 285
Post my face wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 45! Oh No!

Uh!
So I signed my name on number 24, hey!
Yeah the judge said, "Boy, just one more...
We're gonna throw your *** in the city joint"

Looked me in the eye, said, "You get my point?"
I said Yea!, Oh yea!
Write me up on 285
Post my face wanted dead or alive

Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 45!
Oh, yea!

I can't drive 45!
I can't drive 45!
I can't drive 45!
I can't drive 45!
Uh!

When I drive that slow, you know it's hard to steer.
And I can't get get my care out of second gear.
What used to take two hours now takes all day. Huh!
It took me 4 minutes to get outta flatland

Gonna write me up on 285
Post my face wanted dead or alive
Take my license, all that jive
I can't drive 45!
No, no no,

I can't drive...
(I can't drive 45!)
I can't drive...
(I can't drive 45!)
I can't drive 45!

I think I actually saw it happen.... or drove up on it anyway-I saw a police vehicle fly out onto the road and expected to see lights ahead as I made the turns near Turkey Creek there, and as I came around a corner there was a cop car looking like he was parked in the left lane? Right up against the cement barrier? Later I heard he hit the barrier and snapped his neck, and in the article it said "unfortunately we never got the violator"..And are Morrison cops unionized?

I have to say that I agree with VL here....
OMG!! That's hard to say since I can count the times he's been right on a one armed man with 3 fingers missing.

Speed traps suck- they comsume law enforcement resources that should be better allocated to more serious crimes- there's a reason why over 70% of murder goes unsolved- over 75% rape goes unsolved- and over 85% robbery never gets solved. The reason is because the priority has been set- nail the joe and jane commuter for a traffic ticket.

Traffic tickets bring on lots of revenue- murder, rape and robbery does not. Yes it's about the money, and if you think it's about safety then you drank the cool-aid that our law enforcement community spooned out for you. Don't you think it would be a safer community for us if more resources were allocated to solving real serious crime like robbery and murder instead of the focus they place on traffic infractions?

Now I'm not saying that they should stop altogether with the traffic tickets- but spending all day everyday hiding around the corner on 285 waiting for speeders is not my idea of proper allocation of law enforcement resources.

In California- law enforcement is prohibited from using radar to issue traffic tickets on freeways... why? Because it was noted long ago that the police would spend all their time on revenue collection. In Cali- they must pace you on the road to determine your speeding. Radar can be used off of the freeways on secondary roads. In Texas- the law says that any revenue from a ticket issued on a state highway goes to the state.

These types of laws were designed because of the tendancy of local police departments to abuse their traffic enforcement authority - and to keep a balance between the public concern for safety and the natural attraction to abuse that power to collect revenue by some two bit police department.

I have heard many cops say- any cop can follow any citizen around and if they do it long enough- just about everyone will do somthing wrong and give enough cause for a traffic stop.

I don't mind traffic enforcement- but the incessant - day after day after day enforcement of the 2 mile segment on 285 under the Morrison PD authority reminds me of a police state. It's obivious that this section is being over-enforced. My evidence of this is the constant presence of MPD every single morning as I head to work.

Further evidence is the fact that other sections of the highway are not littered with Jeffco sheriff- yes I see them every now and then- but I would say for every instance I see a Jeffco - I see the Morrison PD 10 times.

Now I dont know about you- but I am a responsible driver and citizen and I don't need a constant police presence to feel safe- and I feel like the vast majority of people who drive 285 are like me. Is it a dangerous road- yes- it always has been.

I think modest traffic enforcement for those who blatently disregard the speed limit or are particularly agressive drivers is acceptable and necessary- but a constant - never ending enforcement zone for the main purpose of fleecing us commuters is over the line. Morrison PD stepped over that line years ago.

Here's the deal.... for more than 30 years now- I have been listening to our local government (fire and police) on my radio scanners. I have seen traffic enforcement go from reasonable, modestly acceptable levels to outright abuse. I have seen the town where I grew up go from one sheriff who knew us all- to 12 officers on duty.

I remember when if you screwed up the sheriff would give you a smack on the head - and a ride home to you're parents house. Now every kid is a potential "corrections client". I have seen my town go from a place which had an active night life every weekend- to a place where people are afraid to have even one glass of wine when out for dinner- because the sheriff is so thick and all up in everyone's business.

I don't like it. It's not what I would would expect the standard of freedom should be. I'd rather have my freedom back, and give up some of this jack-booted safety and security. People are getting stopped and arrested for WALKING home from a bar in Evergreen these days! Is that a safety issue too like drunk drivers? It's not about safety- it's about an over staffed sheriff with nothing better to do.

Morrison is overstaffed as well. It's obivious by their constant presence on 285 & the ticket writing what the priority is.

Look- I have much more respect for the state patrol than I do the Morrison PD. I developed this opinion after years of watching and listening to how they operate. While the state patrol has remained an effective- modest law enforcement authority- our local sheriff and especially the little two-bit departments Like Morrison PD have abused their authority by expanding beyond what the community really needs- and in order to justify their large numbers they must make all of us "potential customers".

Sorry - I remember better days- I remember more reasonable enforcement of our traffic laws. I remember the place before it became a "police state" atmosphere, and I want the police and sheriff to view us as citizens again- not look at us all as assumed criminals who need to be constantly watched and continually scrutinized.

The way a overstaffed police department works is like this- first they go after the criminals- when they run out of them they start going after the speeders and traffic offenders- and when they run out of them - they start going after YOU and ME.

Especially when it comes to the Morrison PD- who are really nothing more than overpaid meter maids.
